Yes, but all of those were open on their scheduled opening day (including media days) and closed during the season (except Gemini, which I think stayed open that first season and then was re-profiled in the off-season). None of them actually missed opening day.

Now, for the real question: If this rumor turns out to be true, what sort of problem could cause this to be known a full 2 months before the park opens?
It would completely change people's plans for attending opening day. I live close enough it wouldn't bother me but there are some who may be traveling great distances for OD and the opening of Maverick. Hotel reservations, auto rentals, campsite reservations. The list goes on and on, so I can see people's concern even if it may only be a rumor.

Ride on, MrScott!
At least they had Dragster opened for opening day. It may have been rushed (and we all know the consequences that followed from it) but it opened none-the-less.
Screamscape, IMO, is good for news....not for info about future projects or anything to do with and pertaining to the word "rumor".

I would agree with Tim and say that it would be something pertaining to the LSM motors. That’s one of the biggest...heck it IS the biggest part of the ride. With out the entire system, they can’t make the trains move up the lift and down the launch. If we don’t see testing by the end of April, then we'll know for sure if something is up. Though with the time they have now, I doubt they wouldn’t have enough time to fix the problem(s) before opening day gets here. And I really feel that if they seriously think Maverick wont open for opening day, they'll let us know.
In all, there's really no need to worry. There's always the possibility of a new ride not opening for an opening day. But I'm confident that Maverick will open come May 12th.

See, this is why I keep pushing for a hamster-powered lift. If one of the hamsters breaks down, you just go out and get another one.

And we can use hamster poo-pellets to heat the park during Halloweekends!
Brilliant!

That's not subtle at all. :) But, then again, neither was the posted rumor that another ride would open with Skyhawk in 2006, that the 2007 ride "is pretty much locked in as being from B&M," or "confirmation about the removal of the Antique Cars for this project" (among others).
The site is great for general updates from parks all over the world, especially for reading about updates found on other web sites. But if you're looking for Cedar Point information, and you spend any time here, the rest is either news you already know, or wild rumors. Every so often a rumor gets a hit, but usually by that point, most people are figuring it out anyway. A lot of people knew some of the Maverick details when it was posted there, but everyone else had the courtesy to respect the park and keep quiet until the designated time.
Don't worry about rumors. Stick to what you know.

The cedarpoint blog has just said that maverick WILL open on time. They are right on scheduale right now.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

But Intamin never has problems with LSMs **CoughCoughSTECoughCough**
Seriously, though, I think Intamin would have learned a lot from STE that they can apply.

Can someone name a launch coaster that has ever opened with no problems?

Did anyone else find it amusing that Screamscape capitalized "Buzz"? PointBuzz, CoasterBuzz, etc... :)
OMG!! THEY CAPITALIZED "BUZZ"!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!! THAT'S THE MOST HILARIOUS THING I'VE EVER HEARD!!
I've never been to Cedar Point, but I hear it's nothing special.
Top 5 coasters: 1. Millenium Force 2.(tie) Dragster/Maverick 3. Shiekra 4. Alpengeist 5. Shivering Timbers
^No it isn't.

Gomez, didn't Storm Runner at HP open up fairly problem-free???
There are 2 types of computer users in the world; those that back up often, and those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Maverick is scheduled to open on May 12th. If for any reason it won't be in operation, we will always let you know. Right now, we're right on track for its grand opening.
See I told you guys they'd let us know.:)
^Fairly problem free? Yeah pretty much. It had small problems that were, if I remember right, mainly with its switch track and other problems that are typical with a new launch coaster. *** Edited 3/18/2007 2:27:32 AM UTC by TTD 120mph***

I like how responsive CF is to this, among other, enthusiast sites. Nice to know they listen to their fans, even if we don't always know it.

TTD shouldn't have opened on time. It had a serious problem occur when they started testing. When opening day rolled around, it was running and had passed state inspection. It was a rough day, but it ran.
As it turns out, they couldn't get the part on time to get it operational and state inpsected. Somehow they got it to run by taking a car off each train. After doing that, they didn't have much time to get the launch system up to speed. A very slow process is not fun when crammed right up against a deadline. Intamin was in dire need for more time, but did not have it. They lost weeks of time despite being pressed for time as it was.
It's the kind of time where an easy button would come in handy.
Even If Maverick has ran into serious problems, I still don't think it would stop them from getting the ride open on time.
