Route to CP on Opening Day

Hey all you Metro-Detroiters (well, not necessarily) I want to know what route you are planning on taking to get to CP on Opening Day. Of course, considering construction, traffic, etc... SR 2? The turnpike? What do you recommend?

I always take the turnpike on the way back...it depends on the way there.

SR2 is pretty much done with the majority of it's construction. So i'm taking SR2 to US6 or SR4, to the causeway. I just haven't decided which yet.

While not from metro Detroit (from the Lansing area), I think I'll be sticking to Rt. 2 again this year. Even with construction last summer, it still seemed quicker than the turnpike. And for scenic purposes, I always get off at the first exit for Sandusky (US 6 I believe) and drive through town.

Just remember... if you don't have a Lucas County Ohio license plate when going through Oregon.. When the sign says 35.. go 34.. heheh

Judge Petrof is NOT a nice man.. ehhehehe

Rt. 2 seemed ok the other day when I came back from Sandusky.. The turnpike on the otherhand.. is a mess in both directions at several points..

Just make sure to take Rt. 4 into Sandusky rather than Rt. 250. It's accessible from both the Turnpike and Rt. 2 and it completely bypasses the traffic mess on Rt 250 near the Mall and the Great Bear.

Thanks for the info on 250. I'd hate to get tangled up into a load of traffic and construction. Looks like rt4 will be the way into the Point year.

We went yesterday to get our season pass...best way from Detroit area was I-75 South To 280 To 2East To 6 (Oregon)...Follow That In, Only Construction For About 10 Miles...Were There In NO Time :)

mikey
see ya on Sunday :)
Did you folks up Toledo & Detroit way ever consider taking I-280 to SR 51, to SR 579,
then to route 2? State Route 579 will dump
you onto SR 2 about 5 miles west of Davis Besse, near that big truck stop on the long curve.
That way you can avoid all the 2-lane, traffic-light garbage in Oregon. SR 579 is off of SR 51 at the Woodville Mall, and shoots straight west to SR 2 at 55mph, and you only pass through Curtice on the way. I used to hang out up by Sylvania, and we always went that way coming out of Sandusky. Give it a try sometime!

That's the Bono curve.. and the big truck stop has been gone for about 2 years... burnt to the ground.. then of course.. while it was a pile.. some truck lost control and rammed onto it.

The problem with 579 is running through area's like Eliiston.. the cops KNOW that people start to use it as a shortcut.. and they set up thier speed traps accordingly... Route 2 is a little safer just due ot the amount of traffic, but in them small towns, they know every car.. and your's will stick out like a sore thumb if you're doing 45 in a 40...

P.S. Leaving for CP right now... get the pass.. meet up sith some friends... eat some food.. drink som alcohol..

That's the Bono curve...

Why do they call it that?

and the big truck stop has been gone for about 2 years

Can you tell I haven't been up that way in a while? More Central Ohio these days! Is the Green Derby Tavern still there? Used to stop there for a drink now & then.
