Rougabrew Bottles at Marina Store

I love Key Lime Pie, period. I also like the alcohol bite of a good corn whiskey. I'll have to give it a shot. (HA! unintentional drinking pun)

I hope ya find it and enjoy it, it's seriously perfect IMO. Today we got Straight Bourbon ready to bottle...getting it down right at bottle proof was a pain in the ass...bleh

How long do you age your bourbon? I hope it's not some newfangled thing like Cleveland Bourbon is doing and accelerating the process with science. It's just not the same.

Also, lately I've been finding myself really like cask strength whiskeys. I think I might have a problem lol.

Our Bourbon is 2 years minimum as it had to be for Straight Bourbon, we started with smaller 15 gallon casks. Right now we're finishing bottling our second batch, it was in 15 gallons as well, but aged about 2 1/2 years. Batch 3 will be soon and is about 2 1/2-3 years depending on the barrel. After this we have two more batches in larger 25 gallon barrels, those are 3-4 years. From there everything up will be in 53 gallon barrels 4+ years.

The next new product we're working on is Bourbon Barrel Aged Rum where we've used our spent barrels and tossed our Silver Rum at 150 proof in the barrels to age out. That'll be bottled hopefully this year and out at 90 proof. Just waiting on the barrels to do their stuff, it's not bad now, but we want a bit more.

The other rums and moonshines are unaged. They come off the still, we proof them down, add flavors if needed, and bottle at whatever proof they are bottled at.

If you're anywhere close to us (Wright Patt basically) we do tours every Sat for $5 and ends with you being able to taste the whole product line. It's a pretty cool tour I think, especially given how much knowledge and stuff we throw your way. There's a bunch of tours I've taken in the past that just kind of talk about the still and corn, that's it lol. Depending on who does the tour that day, you may feel like Walter White's up front talking, it can get pretty science-y.

As for cask strength, trust me I feel ya. About once a month or so we theif the barrels to take samples and check how the Bourbon is aging. I'll usually dilute it down to test it and open the flavor, but I usually also try a bit of cask strength to see how it is. I've grown accustomed to it at 125 proof now at this point. :P One cask strength right now that's out that I've thoroughly enjoyed is Angels Envy. It's a $400 bottle, so I wouldn't recommend the purchase, however if you have a great Bourbon bar near you like I do (Century Bar in Dayton) they may have it. It's worth the price for a glass served neat.

I'm a few hours away, but I do love visiting places that manufacture alcohol. Angels Envy is quite amazing stuff, I had some a few weeks ago, but it didn't compare to Bookers 25th anniversary that I had last weekend.

130.8 proof, aged 10 years and 3 months - the last batch that Booker Noe had his hands on before he passed. It's a one-off, commemorative batch. I highly recommend you give it a shot if you find it anywhere near by.

Stagg Jr. is my go-to cask strength bourbon, and Laphroaig 10 Cask is my favorite cask scotch. Damn, I love whiskey.

I recently had Laphroaig 10 year cask strength, it's quite smokey stuff. I love their 10 year, but 10 year cask strength was a major improvement.

Bookers is always fantastic, and is a great bottle. I'd love if we had a large enough market currently where we could sell our product as cask strength. It's such an amazing thing.

If you ever are going to stop in, please let me know when, I'd love to be able to give you a tour of the place and show you some things. I like giving tours to the whiskey/beer geeks that are enthusiastic about the industry and our products, it makes it alot more fun!

Can get Rougabrew at Trail Tavern?

If you live in the Akron and Canton area, they are now selling Rougabrew at Acme.

In the Wright Patt AFB area, I found Rougabrew available on tap at Pies & Pints. Very surprised to see it in this weeks tap list.

Anybody have a picture of what the Rougarou brew bottles look like?

I just will say it's sad that Rougabrew is from Brew Kettle. White and Black Rajah are fantastic IPAs, especially Black Rajah.

Rougabrew is a pretty lame Munich Lager. I feel bad saying Yuengling is better.

^ I guess it depends on your Beer taste buds, but to me I thought it was alright and still worth getting again. When you say Munich Lager, what do you mean?

It's the style of beer it's meant to be. A Munich or Helles (if my spelling is correct, I forget) is a golden lager with a bright white head with a clean taste.

Beers are def. different strokes for different folks. Take me, I'm a Double IPA kinda guy, or a heavy IPA. Fat Heads Head Hunter is my go-to IPA, very tasty. However, it's not meant for all.

My biggest deal is Brew Kettle puts out some fantastic beers, and Rougabrew is sadly not among any of them. For a craft beer at a craft price, I really wouldn't buy another, or even say it's a memorable beer.

Take last night while I was at Pies & Pints. Had a Points Unknown IPA. Very tasty, and def. worth the try if you're a beer dork.

^ Not trying to make fun of you here, but what kind of Beer would Rougabrew be considered? Light, Dark, IPA, etc?

I just checked at the Acme in North Canton today and didn't see them. The post at CPfansite, said they were at the Fairlawn store. I'll check other Acme stores near me in the next few days.

I go for a double IPA myself, but I think Rougabrew was meant to be on the bland side on purpose, to be non-offensive to casual beer drinkers. Probably hits that mark perfectly. The bottles are very nice as a collectable, the label is plastic instead of paper so it should be very durable.

Oh I know they're not ganna go with a true DIPA or something, but at least something flavorful. Take a Hefe Weizen or something. Simple to appeal to a bunch of people, but a unique and way tasty brew. If you haven't had one, try Fat Head Goggle Fogger. It's easily becoming a new favorite.

But it's sad in terms of Lagers a huge brewery producing junk does better, especially when Brew Kettle makes fantastic beers. Like I stated, I really could drink Black Rajah all damn day.

I will be in the Cleveland area this weekend ,was wondering if anybody knows where to get any rougabrew, a six pack or case??
