Room charges coming this year

Jeff's avatar

I never thought I'd see the day, but apparently you'll be able to do room charges at most food locations throughout the park this year. I'm in awe. It's about time.

What does this mean? Does this mean room service or whatever food you buy in the park?

Wow, I guess this must be coinciding with the new system they're FINALLY getting set up. +1 Cedar Point!

As if my credit card that my room is on wasn't charged enough...I think I'll stick to cash for in park, but for most people this is a great move!

It's about 20 years late technology wise, but definitely a great thing for the park to offer. Should certainly get some people to spend more money. I'm curious if they're also going to link ticketing to this system so you can get into the park with your hotel room key?

Now if they could only get Michigan's Adventure on the same computer system so they could scan in your platinum pass for entry at the gate. Going to the group sales booth and having to be issued a paper ticket can sometimes be a LOOOONG process!

Now if only the would get food that was edible and was not going to cost me an arm and a leg, I would be geeked.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.

Just curious, I am staying at Lighthouse point pretty soon and I never have before. Do they use "keys" or "cards" or something else to get you in and out of your rooms?

Wow...call me stunned. We were pushing for this 15 years ago and you would have had better luck selling a blind man a pair of glasses. I don't even want to think about the missed opportunity for revenue over those 15 years.

^ I'm with you Chief, it almost makes me wonder why do this at all now. I mean, CP missed this boat along time ago. Maybe it will take 15 years to get the Platinum passes to work at every park, maybe they are hard at work on that problem.

Lighthouse point uses key cards.

Now they just need to implement a system that enables them to email on-ride photos, something I think should have been done long ago as well.

Well, better now than never Erik. I just never understood the resistance to implementing a system. Well, I did understand it to the extent that Kinzel embraces technology about as warmly as you'd want to embrace a porcupine.

But, all I know is that anytime I stay at a resort where I can charge items back to my room I spend significanlty more money than when I stay places I do not. Yes, I typically get surprised by the bill but I pay it.

It would be really cool if they could send items you purchased to your room like Disney does. But, that would be really pushing the limits for Kinzel.

windixie06

That is probably an issue of staffing and expense Erik. (Perhaps not wanting to get into the liability of lost/stolen/broken items as well.)

Of course, they can make it easier by having a minimum price of purchase for having the items delivered and they could utilize the bell staff and courtesy van drivers who typically have dead periods of the day when they are twiddling their thumbs.

The quality of the food is definitely getting better, which isn't surprising since the guy who took over foods a couple of years ago has been pretty tenacious about positive change. It's still priced totally out of line, but I suspect that has a lot more to do with the guy at the top.

Jeff -

How has the quality of food changed? Have I missed out on any ground breaking new dining choices? Or is the quality of your Johnny Rockets burger increasing? What's going on here?

I didn't notice anything major last year for the day I was there.

If it has improved, I would like to know where.
