roller coaster axles

Is it me or does cracked roller coaster axles seem like the most common cause of an accident on a roller coaster why is this?

Well, a cracked seat ain't going to do a lot of damage.

I can think of one cracked axle in recent history, in Japan. That hardly constitutes a trend of failure.

Jeff's right, incidents are very rare, especially when put up against other tragedies you see on the news.

Roller coasters and thrill rides are safe and if the parks want to stay in business, they'll continue to be safe. There's no questioning this in my mind.
