Rollbacks

Ok, I am positive that this has been discussed before, but I wasn't even aware that this site existed when it would've been discussed. I was wondering, since MF has that nifty cable lift system, is there an anti-rollback device. If there is, its obvious from the silence on the way up the lift that it isn't the conventional interlocking tooth system, and I'm not aware of any other type.

The anti-rollback system is that same interlocking tooth system you are familier with, except it has one addition. There is a wheel rolling on the flat part of the rack which generates a magnetic field. This field pushes the anti-rollback dog up and away from the rack. That is why you don't here the clicking noises. When the train stops, the magnetic field goes away and the dog drops down to engage the teeth.

Pete nailed it. So when you here the clicking sound, that means that either the track is wet and the wheels are sliping or one of them is losing air and is not getting the traction it needs.

Yes, the traditional sound is a machine gun steelmonsters, but 99er is saying that if you hear clicking on MF, the track is wet or one wheel is losing air and not getting the traction it needs.

The anti-roolback wheels on Millennium Force are regular tires that have an innertube with air in them. You can see these wheels on the last car. They run just on the inside of the running wheels on the track.. Just like any other tire, they can lose air. Most of the time when you see a train in the transfer, that is the problem. Maintanence will replace one in about 15 to 25 min. and then the train will be put back into operation.
