Roll backs?

For example; If the Gemini rolls back into the valley after the first drop, how is the train moved? Is the train disassembled, or pushed up the second hill somehow?

Depends on the ride. Gemini and Mean Streak they've pulled the train off, while I believe they used winches to pull MF over a hill and send it on its way. I assume the grooves in the track on its hills are there to facilitate such winching.

The day that I saw MF's blue train just "chilling" at the bottom of hill #3 they were winching it up and over. It took them the vast majority of the day. As I understand it just barely made it through the last overbank. Could you imagine getting that thing over the hill just to have it roll back again?

I was young once...

When Mantis rolled back before the first loop, they cut the track and yanked the cars out that way. No other way of doing it at that location.

What? Why not? I don't recall Mantis ever rolling back.

Mantis rolled back prior to this season (or was it last season?) during crew/general ride testing. As it was taking the first drop an unusually large gust of wind caught the train and it never made it through the vertical loop. I have a hard time believing they actually cut the track and didn't just remove the upstops and lift the cars vertically, but then again...I've been known to be wrong before.

I didn't say that Mantis rolled back this year? Or last? Just that it did happen.

Yeah, it was on a very windy day in April of 2001 during testing.

I think somebody posted about it on here.

I always wondered how they get the train "unvalleyed". Do the parks have their own crane that they can use to get the train moved back on course.

When Millie rolled back earlier this year, they did get it to the top of the hill on the return trip from the island. They let it go from there, but it rolled back again on the last overbank before the station. I was there that day and got to see them pulling it through that last overbank.

That same day, Gemini's red train rolled back right in front of the mid course. I posted about it here. They must have pulled the upstops off and lifted it, because a few hours after I saw it valleyed, it was gone.

I remember last season when Junior Gemini rolled back and got stuck (yes, this did actually happen) they had a bunch of maint. guys pushing the train.
