Roadway Inn North - Reviews

Looking for a cheap place to stay for Bonus Weekend. By price the Roadway Inn North (just off the causeway on Route 6) wins hands down. But many of the internet reviews say the place is no good. Any one here ever stay there? Are the reviews right or is it a case of expecting the place to be a 5 star hotel and finding it is not?

I stayed there once for an overnight trip at the end of the season last year.

It is not a 5 star hotel. It would even be a stretch to call it a 2 star hotel. But it served its purpose as far as I'm concerned.

I'm one of those people that can't fathom paying a lot for a hotel that I only sleep & shower in. For long vacations, definitely, but not for a place to crash between coasters.

The sleeping area itself was fair. Bed & sheets were clean, and everything was functioning. The bathroom left a little to be desired. It was very old & outdated (hideous blue-green floor & walls) & just left me with a general feeling of ickyness. I don't know if that was real, or just perceived due to how old it looked and my general awareness of cleanliness as a nurse. I had an extra pair of throw-away flip flops that I wore in the shower (and made my family members wear as well).

It was a little musty smelling (which I expect from a smoking room), but nothing that cranking the air up didn't fix. It did look like perhaps something had flooded upstairs, because in the right light you could see water streaks down the walls. My hubby joked that our room was crying because it was so old. :-)

It was close, cheap, and served a basic continental breakfast (Otis Spunkenmeyer muffins & danish with juice & cofee). It is also within walking distance to a carryout & Rite Aid. It worked for me.

I don't remember exactly what the reviews were when I went, but I remember being a little leery. It was nothing as bad as what I read there. Just a basic no-frills place to crash.

We were suppose to stay there a few years ago...when we got there, they told us that some pipes had burst and they had to send us to another one of their "sister" resorts. I can't remember what it was, but it wasn't bad, much nicer looking than Roadway Inn...but when we got to the new hotel, we told them what Roadway told us and they laughed and said they just overbooked and the pipe thing wasn't true. Soooo yeah, there's that.

We stayed there 3 or 4 years ago and then realized that it definately didn't look like the one they showed on the internet when we booked. There was also an influx of people that appeared to be on the "weekly rate" plan and hence living there. There were at least 2 families grilling on the second floor as I recall when we arrived.

My experience is with internet hotel reviews is that the really bad reviews are usually sent in by competitors, really good ones are sent in by hotel staff, and real reviews can be picked out of the bunch with a little common sense.

I remember reading reviews for a motel (can't remember it's name, 24 hour something or other I think) that used to be in now what is a mall parking lot. I remember it had some good internet reviews, but it's obviously gone for a reason.

That was the first thing we noticed too. The pictures were definitely not recent.

^^that was the dusk to dawn motel... I booked there once about 2 years ago. It was cheap close to shopping and restaurants, had black mold in the rooms. Needless to say we turned right around and stayed at Breakers instead.

It was by far the nastiest hotel I have ever stayed at! There were bugs smashed on the wall, the carpet was gross, the beds were not very clean, etc. I could go on and on, but I already did that to Choice Hotels and it did no good (IMO). I never took off my shoes, not even to sleep. My brother and I slept in our clothes and laid towels across the floor to get in and out of the bathroom.

I was treating it as a place to crash, I expected the worst, and found it to be worse than I expected. We found another hotel, the Choice something or other, down on Route 250 by 4, and we pleaded with them because of nastiness of the Rodeway and they gave us a good deal.

Do not stay there, no matter how much money you are trying to save.

We stayed there last year on a whim. Rather than drive down the next day, we left that night after I found such a "great deal" on a hotel.

Let me tell you, that place was disgusting.
There was a hole in the wall, bugs (live and smushed) everywhere, tags from clothing IN the bed between the sheets, which leads me to believe the sheets were not even changed. The absolute dirtiest bathroom I've ever seen in my life, two teens doing god can only guess in the pool, paper thin walls (meaning the trains at 5 a.m sounding like they were ready to plow right through the side), unidentifiable substances on the mirrors and the bed frame (my guess was snot but who knows), and it smelled funky.

Please do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I slept in my clothes, and didn't even use a restroom until we got to CP the next morning.

I considered calling and complaning to the company, but figured it would be a utter waste of time. I'm sure they are somewhat aware of the condition of this place. We cut our 30 odd dollar loss and learned a lesson.

Well, my motto is since we stayed there last year is "Never again, Roadway Inn". Just like Punky said it was bad. The bathroom was old and dirty with bugs in the tub. The room smelled like I don't know what. Just say that I won't ever stay there again even if they payed me.

ahha...but what if they PAID you? Would you do it then?

Yes Rodeway north is bad, bad, bad. Rodeway South is slightly less bad.

Ahh the old rodeway inn thread, i see this pop up every now and then. If you guys are looking for a cheaper then CP place to stay, take a look at the maingate comfort inn. The building is somewhat dated, however the rooms were not very bad. Shower worked, tv had cable, and everything was clean. it was around 85 per night in the middle of season, after AAA discounts.

Yes, " PAID", sorry for the sp. Thanks Josh...lol

Just wanted to add also that the air conditioner sounded like a train going through the room.
