Road signs

I just wanted to let everyone know that as I was driving to work today, I noticed that the SIX FLAGS signs were now changed to GEAUGA LAKE signs. Yesterday they were still Six Flags! That made me happy to see that! :)

I wish I could come back for another season...:(

Cool! Good thing! I was about to say, from what I remember about visiting to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in 2000 was that those signs were not very visable.

Hopefully this will change (or has already changed).....

A proper across-town amusement park should have arrows (or something similar) pointing the way! Just a suggestion . . ;)

I noticed it this morning on I-271 north. They actually totally replaced the signs this time. Before we had signs that said "Six Flags" with the "Sea World" letters plucked off.

What time does the water show start?

I hope they get all the signs this time. As of this winter the south bound Rockside road exit on I-271 still had a sign pointing to "Sea World."

I agree, we should have big bright yellow Geauga Lake Arrows pointing the way to the park! ;)

Here's a question my friends and I were wondering on our way to the park. Who is it that has to pay for the signs along the highway? I'd assume that the highway people put up the signs, but does the park pay for them?

It's ODOT's job to get people to the right place from their highways, so I would think it would be their expense. I don't actually know, but for what license plate fees are, I hope that's the case.

It could be differnt on a larger scale, but when my sister looked into getting a state made road sign for her bussiness (the blue "Atractions" one), she not only had to pay to have it made, she had to rent the spot where it would stand along the road. After I heard about that I always wondered about bigger places like Cedar Point, if they pay per sign or not.

I would imagine that Cedar Point brings in a ton of revenue for the city, and that there is major traffic heading there, so they would probably put up at least some of the signs.
Speaking of signs, anyone ever see that Dick Schwab state farm agent sign? He's now a legend in our family.

Someone better explain what's going on here...or...there will be a lot of explaining to do!

I noticed some signs on 43 that still say Six Flags. Also, at the parking center across the street it says "No Six Flags Parking".

It's ODOT's job to get people to the right place from their highways

Maybe. I believe that those blue "lodging" "gas" and "food" signs are done by a private company---you have to pay a fee to be listed on them.

I believe those are still maintained by ODOT, but you're right, the businesses need to pay to be included.

Hmmn, so I can park at the shopping center now, since it doesn't say "No Geauga Lake Parking?"

I think they did a great job changing all the signs so fast. Now if they could only change the signs back at the university formerly known as CWRU...

I was at the park on Sunday May 2nd. I am from Southfield Mi. and used the online instructions to get to the park on Sunday. These didn't work very well. They said take the ohio turnpike to exit 187, then SR 43 north and then follow the signs to the park, the only problem was their were no signs when you got off the turnpike. No Six Flags or Geauga Lake signs. It was a very hard to find the park, we had to stop and ask for directions. A very nice woman at CVS gave us great directions and we eventually found the park. Also the signs leaving the park to help you get back to the turnpike were very vague. Overall I think that compared to the Sandusky area, Aurora needs some major sign improvements. When we got to the park at 9:50 AM thier were only 5 cars in the parking lot. I thought I was in the Wallyworld scene from that one movie, it was crazy! We rode all the coasters that were operating in the park withing 20 rain filled minutes. The park needs better restroom signs too because the restrooms were hard to find. Overall it was a great trip for the quality of the rides the park had, especially understanding the circumstances of the recent purchase. The park looked great for being so recently de-themed and purchased by Cedar Fair.
