Kerry - Bright Man of the Elite Eight
-You *will* get nervous. It's normal. Don't
chicken out though. Two reasons, first: you'll
absolutely love it once you do it. Second: if
you do chicken out, you'll be kicking yourself
later on for not going on it.
-If you have a fear of heights, like I do, keep
your head up and stare at the horizon the entire
trip up. Don't look down unless you're really
comfortable with the situation. Looking down,
like someone posted above, once you pass the
second set of lights, you're at the top. If
you're heads up looking at the horizon, when you
see the two cables connecting you to the arch
start to level out with your sightline, you're at
the top.
-When you get to the top, the momentum of being
pulled up will make you bounce mid-air two or
three times. This is a VERY unnatural feeling to
the first-timer (and still feels weird to me).
Trust me.. this is the WORST thing about the
ride. If you keep that in mind, just say to
yourself.. "Okay.. 3 bounces, then it's done..."
Once that's over with, you've gotten past the
worst.
-The initial drop immediatly after pulling the
cord ALWAYS makes me clamp my eyes shut... Open
them up fast! The visuals on the way down are
incredible.
-Do NOT be afraid to spread your arms and fly on
your first swing out (Keep your arms locked until
you pass the platform the first time, like they
instruct you to.). Once you get past the
platform, spread your arms and enjoy it! That
first swing is the most powerful and most
enjoyable.. don't waste it!
-Ride Ops can SMELL fear. ESPECIALLY a
first-timer's fear. They *WILL* mess with your
head. My sister's first time, the ride op was
double-checking her harness and said "Hmm.. I
guess we'll let this fly once more, but then it's
gotta be sent in for a replacement... Hey, let us
know if you hear any ripping noises, okay?" I
thought my sister was gonna deck him in the
face. They're just trying to ease your
tension... take it in good humor.
-Most importantly, don't let your nervouseness
block your hearing! The ride ops are going to
give you very specific, very important
information both in the 'suit-up' area, and on
the loading platform. LISTEN TO WHAT THEY SAY.
Their job is to make sure you have a safe, and
FUN flight... what they're telling you isn't for
their health.
-Take an extra $20 for the video. You will want
your first flight captured forever.
Hope all this helped... Have a good flight, and
let us know how it went!
