I honestly thought the Space Spiral would be in the park forever but I was wrong. So at this point even the most historic rides may go.

Well, unless they went through the trouble of significantly lengthening the launch track, the launch would have to occur in about the same time frame as it does now.
AKA, not going to happen. I would imagine TTD would be completely redone or replaced before that ever happened.

Aircraft carriers launchers are only around 150ft and launch planes at around 165mph in 2sec. You think they would need to extend the track?! The EMLAS (a LIM) has launched planes at over 200mph. Not to mention that the current TTD trains weigh 15 tons which is much less than some of the aircraft that EMLAS is launching. Give it 10 or 20 years when the tech is more affordable and this will be more than just possible. Am I the only one who can open another tab and use Google while on here?
The TTD trains weigh 30,000lbs? I never would have guessed that.
I just looked up an F14 Tomcat has a max takeoff weight of 72,900lbs and I never would have guessed that either.
Thanks for the info.

Im not saying the technology wont be available to use a similar launch system on a rollercoaster. I just don't see them spending the money to redo Top Thrill Dragster with a completely new launch system.

^ yes it is probably unlikely but not completely impossible. TTD is 2800ft and they would prob need to replace about half to implement a new system. Also with the lack of moving parts in a LIM launch as compared to a hydrolic launch you could also probably decrease spending on maintenance. They made changes at SFNE to make Bizarro which is 5400ft. There are other successful rides such as Bizarro at SFGA and Powder Keg which were also much longer. Also it might be possible to launch TTD 150+mph and make the ride 500-600ft. Then its a completely new ride that would be the tallest and fastest for a fraction of the price of making one that big from scratch. 10 to 20 years down the road this would probably cost a half or third the cost of a completely new ride.
Put the LIM fins on the hill itself. I've always wanted to be launched while facing up.

No. Most of us are just too lazy ;)
Your mom is to fat to ride TTD. said:

That is actually an interesting idea. It most likely wont happen to TTD in it's lifetime, but I could see that on another coaster in the near future.
