rides down?

i was at cp for the last couple days and i noticed that more than usual rides were down. it seemed that every ride i went to was shutting down for at least a little bit. im not complaining and saying that every ride should constantly be running but im just wondering if anyone else has noticed that rides have been down more often.

It did seem at one point that alot of ride's were down but all of them came back up. It may have also been due to a storm coming in.

2006- Power Tower, Monster, Sky Ride, Raptor, and Giant Wheel
2007-ATL Monster/Witches Wheel

I was there from 6/18 - 6/20 and noticed the same thing. I go at least twice a year and have never seen so many rides break down. TTD was down a whole lot compared to my 2006 visits, Maverick was down consistently, Jr. Gemini never did open, Disaster Transport was down due to RAIN (???), and I actually caught Wicked Twister being SOLDERED (which I have a picture of)...

Anyway, the visit was great as usual, but I noticed the same thing...Hopefully things are a bit better for my August visit...

Soldered or welded?

hmmm i am guessing welded...

P.S. Disaster Transport goes down for rain all the time as there is a vent over the lift hill that leaks. The building is not totally watertight. Maverick does go down a bit but it is usually just resets and they dont usually take more than 10 minutes..Dragster is running better than previous years in my opinion and Jr Gemini, well that has been down for a while...there is a big thread about that...bummer, i suppose the other 13 coasters were down too? Just not worth mentioning??

Not trying to be an ass and glad you still had a good time, but it just makes it seem as though this thread is going in the "OMG Cedar Po!nt Suxorz!!!1111!!" Category.

Did you happen to wait for Maverick or did you leave like so many people i see do? Always laugh when they leave and the ride restarts in like 3 minutes...and then you either see them back at the end of the line or trying to get their spot back

Ride On!

I visited on 6/19-6/21 (stayed at Breakers) and was in the park on the 19th and 20th. My brother and I were noticing that there seemed to be more ride down time.

Mantis went down when my brothers were in line. Maxair has lots of down time on the 19th, but not due to ride problems. First, someone lost a show under it and they had to retrieve that. Then, the next round, someone threw up and so they had to clean and do empty cycles. Then, the power went out on that entire area of the park and it was out the rest of the day. The Giant Wheel, Wicked Twister, Kiddy Kingdom, Troika, Maxair, Ocean Motion, Chaos, Sky Cars, and all the buildings back there were powerless. It went off around 8:00 and was out till the next morning.

The next day, the 20th, things ran pretty smoothly. Maverick did have some intermintent down time in the morning but was always running again in 10-15 minutes.

The biggest question came on thursday morning...we were playing challenge golf outside the park around 11:00 and I noticed everything running empty. I watched the Magnum run at least 25 empty trains...I think they were adding the 3rd train. But looking around, I watched Gemeni go empty, along with Corkscrew, MF, ID, and TTD. TTD had several rollbacks where it didn't even come close. By about 11:30 or so, it seemed that everything was back to normal.

Overall, as CP adds more rides, there are more opportunities for down time. Also, do you think that the power supply is struggling to keep up with the needs of the park. All these new Hydraulic based and launching rides (maxair, skyhawk, TTD, WT, Maverick) I'm sure use a ton of power.

All in all, we had a great time and still got a chance to ride nearly everything in the park, some things multiple times. I always enjoy my yearly trip to the Point.

I was there that Thursday morning and also a bit confused. We headed straight to MF from the SC gate at 10:30 there were some light sprinkles for about 2 minutes on the way over, no visible lightning or anything. By the time we got to MF it was closed. It was about 20 minutes to half an hour before we saw any other coasters running, even then they ran empty trains. It was rather odd, but I just figured they were taking precautions because of the rain and recent events involving Magnum...It's not like the delay ruined my day, I'd rather get on a ride knowing I'm safe.

I have to agree, it seemed mechanical breakdowns were more common than in previous years when I visited. I don't know why. It seemed that every coaster was down at least once over the course of three days.

And that's not considering the weather shut downs.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

magnum, mantis, top thrill, maverick, wicked twister, all broke down while i was in line but i also saw others out, it just seemed like more rides were down than usual. and i saw magnum get stuck for a couple minutes numerous times at the top of the lift hill. does anyone know if there is a reason it is consistantly doing that?

How long did Magnum stop for?

Goodbye MrScott

John

Just the train on the lift hill would stop for about a minute or two but it was doing it rather consistantly.

My thought was it might be a blocking issue. But I would think that would result in 10-15 second delays, not minute delays.

when i went at the begaining of june, MF got suck on the way up the hill.then when we in the front for maverick, it broke down and took like 10-15 mintues to fix.but that was all i saw.i must say, TTD has been working better then ive ever seen, so they must be trying harder to get it running more.

When I was at the park on June 19, I was in line for DT with my wife when the power went out for that whole area of the park. We got out of line because we weren't sure how long the wait would be and DT is not worth wasting our time to get the power back. It was sort of creepy with that whole area having no power and being real quiet. We just got off of Giant Wheel right before the power went out. Glad we weren't stuck on that. The rest of the park was still fine so we moved on and didn't worry about the outage.

We were at the park from June 18-20 and we really didn't notice too much downtime. The only time we had to wait was for Maverick during ERT on the 19th for a little rain, but it wasn't too bad. Other than that, I thought the rides were running pretty consistantly.

Rest in Peace MrScott

I've seen Wicked Twister being welded several times in the past couple of years. I mean, in a logical way I know I don't have much chance of getting hurt, but it certainly makes it more thrilling. :)

Usually, if I see a ride break down, I'm already sitting in the seat and I have to get out. That happened to me like, four times this year already. :P

It is a blocking issue, but not because of a mechanical problem. They're setting up because they are not getting the trains out fast enough. Every time that happens, someone has to run out to release the safeties and restart the lift - so it's about a minute.

I really hate to say this because for the last several years, I feel like Magnum has had better crews than the rest of the park, but this year's crew needs a serious kick in the ass. The bins are a terrible idea on that ride (invest in some free lockers by the entrance CP!), but they were there last year and it is SO much worse this year to the point of being ridiculous. About 80% of the setups I've seen could have been avoided with a little bit of hustle and a little less indifference. I seriously get annoyed watching the way my ride is being run these days. The fact that you have to run under the lift to restart the ride ought to tell someone it wasn't designed to be operated in this manner. Seriously people - we turned in a blank DOR several times. The last time I was there, you set up more in two hours (6 times) than we did on a horrible day when everyone was wearing ponchos!

Interestingly enough, when we setup (once or twice PER DAY, not once or twice every 10 trains!) we were supposed to stop the train low on the lift, rather than letting it block stop itself at the top like they are doing this year. I guess it saves some time when you restart, but we didn't want people flipping out up there.

I would love to show the picture, but I do not have a picture sharing website (other than facebook which is password protected) and I don't want to set one up...

If anyone wants to post it for me, I would be glad to attach the picture to a private e-mail. Just let me know...

I was in the park Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th and MY friends that had never been there before said the same thing. Luckily I had been there enough times to know that when something goes down for mechanical that usually means computer needs to be robooted. Only when you see the mechanics or lifts do you start to wonder if it will get back up. Made for some great waits since most would get out of line when the announcment was made. I think that as rides get more advanced and computer driven that will happen more often. The big 3 were down frequently during my 2 day visit, but none of the times were longer than 15 min except Maverick on monday.

I was there on Sun. the 24th, and TTD didnt open till around 1:30, (seen a mechanic working on fins on the launch), WT was up and down all day long, and Maverick had only a few downtimes, from what I seen.
