Rides at CP

I just know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but here goes: Why is everyone so set on the rollercoasters at Cedar Point being "thrill machines". Hey, don't get me wrong, I LOVE CP's coasters (ride them whenever I get a chance to visit the mainland). I mean, you hear all of this talk about, "GET RID OF DT, IT SUCKS!", "OUT WITH IRON DRAGON, IT'S TOO SLOW!". Geese people, CP isn't just for the thrill seeker, they try their best at creating coasters and rides for everyone in the family! I'm really sure when they created DT someone said, "This is going to be the world's number one rollercoaster!". Some of the rides at CP ARE INTENDED FOR THE REST OF THE FAMILY! It makes me mad that people are so self centered and arrogant(sp) that they don't look at the rest of the audience that CP attends to. Rides like DT, the Mine Ride, Iron Dragon, and the such were created for the entire family. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM: DON'T RIDE THEM! No one is forcing you to ride them, or for the matter look at them, in the first place! I understand CP is all about thrills, but they can't cater to the teen-30 age range forever! I would love for my older relatives to ride Magnum with me, but it's just not possible. So instead, we all head for DT, or the Mine Ride. My mom is 4* , and the first thing she does is ride the Mine Ride or DT. The way some people mention and talk about CP makes it sound like a run down carnival in New Jersey. It's sad so many people neglect the BETTER rides at CP. All I am getting at is that CP doesn't just cater to thrill seekers, but everyone of every age. It's a pity that many of the older, slower, less thrilling rides are gone, but I guess you can't help that. I know many of you are going to get mad and such, but many don't get the concept. For those of you in Hawaii, see you at the Punahou Carnival!

I do agree with you on one thing. Yes, I also miss some of the old rides.I grew up going to Cedar Point since the age 4. One of my favorite gentle rides that they got rid of was the Frontier Lift, another cable car or skyride type amusement. That one was really neat because you could look down on the trees and see the silkworm webs. It was also a chance to get off your feet and recuperate before climbing on the next ride. Don't know what to tell you about Disaster Transport. I guess I am neutral on this ride. Yes, it is a good ride for families to take their kids on who are less fortunate to meet the height requirements for the big thrill machines. It was, however, much better when it was originally Avalanche Run. It was open and you could see what the bobsled cars were doing. Anyway, I hope you don't let these other people get to you to the point where you don't come anymore. Cedar Point is definitely a family park, I can definitely attest to that, having gone with my family since 1973. I have not yet been to Hawaii yet, but will definitely make it there sometime while I'm still alive.

Please wait till the ride comes to a complete
stop!
Also, remember if you start demolishing the less active coasters, what will little kids have to practice on to get to the bigger coasters. Plus, little kids may get a thill out of them. (Eliminate Iron Dragon, and you will have a problem with me. That folks was my first coaster!)

I think people are calling for the demolishion of DT is because of CP's negelect of it not because it is not exciting

Well I have to agree w/ Kainoa! Too many people complain about the older rides. When I go to CP, I don't go with the biggest thrill seekers all the time. Sometimes I go with people who will only step on Iron Dragon or CCMR. I love them all, period. Each of them has something special about them that can't be replaced on another coaster. Even tho PT is 240 ft, it can't beat that rush at the end of Demon Drop when you all of a sudden face the sky. And Raptor nor Mantis CANNOT even come close to giving you the sort of airtime you feel after the second hill of corkscrew in the first car. It's nice to have a break from utter insanity and just chill on the milder coasters. And let's not forget, many of these coasters were big shots when they debuted also. I remember when Iron Dragon debuted, all eyes were at CP. Now people talk about tearing it down! That's like saying, in 10 years, the magnum or MF isn't what it used to be so let's tear it down. Nonsense i tell you! :) Alight, that was my 2 cents. :D
Good call! I love the variety at CP. Every coaster is different and each of them possesses thier own special qualities. That's why I don't have a problem with 3 "oversized mine rides" at CP. Gemini is racing, Magnum is an out and back airtime thriller, and Millennium Force will be a twister speedster.
I agree that you need the little coasters to start out on and build up to the big ones. Also as you grow older you need little coasters also. What i was trying to say in my CP adding coasters message is that I would like to see CP add big world class coaster each year and also little coaster each year. If they need to expand then do it. Now we all agreed that money is a problem and the tickets will rise. so that is why they don't. Part of the problem is me being so close I ride them all the time and want more coasters!!! But i do agree with the fact that you still need little coasters for young and old. I just want alot and I do mean alot of world class coasters in one park.

Welcome back Millennium Force riders...We all want to know how was your RIDE!!!!!
agreed.....I love CP and I have to go every year. But I have a 13 yr daughter and a 4yr old daughter and I will not leave them home. They go with me. So, with no one to watch them, Mantis, Raptor, etc are out of the question. I know about Parent Swap, but 1 to 2 hour waits are hard on kids. But, I can get my 13yr old on Corkscrew, DT and Iron Dragon, etc. So me and my wife can take turns with her and get some coaster riding on the trip. The trip is for the kids and thank goodness for the wonderful kiddieland. I dont know, its different as a parent, I get as much joy watching my 4yr old ride 4x4's as I do from any ride....Anyways, kudos to CP for Camp Snoopy and all the little family orientated details that make CP an enjoyable FAMILY getaway.
I think DT could be great coaster if they just made it a little bit longer! Maybe they could extend the track outside of the build towards the end? Although, I sincerely doubt that as CP has already dumped enough money into this machine. But think about how great a ride it could be with a little work. It's really not that bad of a coaster...:)
