Hey everyone, I've been reading these boards for a while now, so I decided to join. I'm a HUGE Cedar Point fan (though I'm from St. Louis) and I'm a coaster fanatic. So theres my introduction (as if you cared).
Anyway, I will be making my first trip out to the Point in June and I was just wondering how all of the rides are running thus far. I know Magnum had the train bumping issue, but thats about all I have heard. How has everything else been running, especially TTD?
Also, it seems like Maverick has had a shaky start. Aside from the theming issues that seem to be all to present, it doesn't look like it has been running very much via the web cam. I would have expected to see trains on the track very frequently, yet it seems extremely staggered. And especially today (5-31) I had not seen a train run until 2 pm (your time), and that was the only time I saw one...
The rides haven't had any large amounts of downtime (other than a few hours). Maverick apparently had some power issues this morning, along with Skyhawk. As of 2:25 ET, they are cycling empty trains, so it looks like they are getting ready to open. Dragster is continuing to get better each year. It has had some downtime, but nothing for more than half a day. Outside of that, and the Magnum incident, everything is doing alright.
Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004
The entire grid that Maverick, Dragster and Wicked Twister is on was out today right around the time the park opened. There was a small army of Ohio Edison trucks there around 1pm when I left. I sure hope they have some kind of SLA because if I were running things I'd be pissed. Skyhawk is not on that grid, and I rode it around 11.

Oh, well I just got the word that Skyhawk was down via word of mouth... shows you how reliable that is. Good thing the power was at least on for Media Day...

Well it still has the most ridiculously slow and unnecessary loading procedure ever, which is a lot like it being down. (Seriously, they need to see how Valleyfair does theirs.)

Yeah, I read that in your TR. I'm planning on getting up there this summer to visit Kara. Do they still do the double checking of the restraints? What makes it so much faster?
Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004
I don't recall them doing figure eights twice to check the restraints, they don't ask you to put your arms up, and they don't tell you to not pull down on the bar. All I remember is that I was suddenly strapped in and the ride started. How's that for being ambiguous? :)

Haha yea, I got a dirty look when I decided to push my own restraint down on Skyhawk. Sorry, but I don't need those chicks having a "running start" at my stomach with the restraint. The double checking on Skyhawk and maXair is totally ridiculous too and I can't understand for the life of me why it'd be necessary on those rides and Gemini, but not others.
At least on maXair, you get a decent cycle out of it, but on Skyhawk, it takes literally five times to load as it does to cycle.

The sporadic power outage almost makes me wonder if they had a phase short to ground or something. When I left around 10 they were tearing up perimeter road by the Millennium Force station.
Those darn Intamin coasters...;)

mk522...you sound pretty silly, even jokingly, with your "darn Intamin coasters" when it's already been explained it's a power issue, not a "coaster" issue. Yes, it did affect three Intamin coasters, but still...
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
By the way, GarretSTL, welcome to Pointbuzz. Now prepare to bicker!

I wonder if everything is fixed today?
Everything was fixed yesterday. Dragster and Maverick were both running by mid-afternoon. As for Wicked Twister - I never made it to that end of the park but I believe I saw it running later in the day.

I'm sure they do have an SLA. It more than likely covers outages such as this one. I can't imagine that they would be heavily penalized for energy downtime. Keeping power at near 100% reliability is no easy or safe task. One false move with high voltage lines and your bacon.
On the other hand, some areas especially those that grow fast, have to enforce energy ceilings. Basically companies cannot draw more than a limited amount of current at any time. If they start up a bunch of motors and go over the limit for even a fraction of a second, their bill for the month could double depending on the agreement. In this case, they have to make sure that comanies don't turn out their all at the beginning of a standard shift or they could knock the local grid offline. In certain situations, it could have a cascade effect such as happened during the regional blackout. Apparently the cause of the 2003 blackout was traced back to trees on First Energy lines in ohio that weren't trimmed.
Ohio Edison was still onsite this afternoon. When I got to the park shortly after 1pm, there was a crane coming out on Perimeter Rd.
I was only at the park for a couple of hours, and when I left, there was a crane parked on Perimeter Rd. just before MF station. There was also several workers around the electrical boxes at the base of MF first drop. So it appears they're still working on whatever the problem was yesterday. Maverick went down for a brief period around 2:30, but was only down about 20 minutes or so.
The water bombs were off again.
