Ride Ops

Maybe this should be in the employee lounge forum I don't know. Anyways, I did use the search and couldn't find anything on the subject so here goes. Is it possible to become a ride op for a rollercoaster your first year working at cedar point? If not how does one become a ride op to control any rollercoaster? Thanks in advance.
Yes, which is what I hope to be able to do next year. Just put in an application to Cedar Point and make it known that you would like to work in ride operations on a roller coaster. I think there are a few rookies on WT's crew this year that posted here in the off-season.

July 11th: Korn, Puddle of Mudd, and Deadsy

Thanks! One more question. How early can you send in an application for next season? Is it better to get it in as early as possible?

Can you consider this years WT rookies to be veterans next year after the horrible amount of uptime the ride has had?

They would still be rookies due to lack of actual time operating that thing.

No disrespect to the ops. They all do a great job standing there all day with the efficiency and safety record that they have.

Sure, it's easy enough to do. You can send an application in sometime in December / early January, and the earlier you apply, the better. But the more important thing is how long you can work -- if you can go from early May - late August, you'll have a better chance at rides of course. The longer your contract, the more they'll be inclined to put you there because that's one less person they have to train to keep the rides running.

On the application itself, you'll be able to mark your top three choice for work -- one of which is ride host, and another is "anything in park operations". Those two will maximize your chances of working rides. A trick you can use, too, is to wait about a week after you apply and then call and ask to speak to Park Operations, asking about your application directly from them. That will really demonstrate where you want to work, and it never hurts!

I used to run that ride...yes there where some first years working there and as well as veterens working the ride. Even though wicked twister has had it's downtime, the crew has done a heck of a job and will definitly have a great chance to work some where else.

To Job app., around decemember is when they start the online app. so just look at cedar point's websight then to look for it.

By the way its my last year at cedar point but i will be comming back as a season pass holder...take care everyone
