HA!!! What are some of the funny spiels you have heard the ride ops say?
Yesterday...6/18...I heard the Gemini Op say that the coaster was going to "go up (however many) feet and drop you back down (however many) feet..." (sorry, I have forgotten how many feet...I just ride the things.) "...and then you will go up, then down, then up, then down, then up, then down, etc." It was pretty funny the way the guy said it. He also proceeded to say "If your happy and you know it clap your hands!" Hehehehe...good times.
The year Dragster opened, I went to ride CCMR and the ride op was pretty funny. He said, "We are going to take you up 40 ft in the air, not once, but twice" Sounded like he was disgruntled that he wasn't working on Dragster.
Tired Angel has inadvertently exposed why you are seeing more and more automated spiels.

Just because the ride op said something extra doesn't mean that he didn't say the safety stuff also required. When you spiel, you say the required stuff everytime, anything else is just icing.

CP, by your blatant display of common sense, its obvious you wouldn't make a good decision maker, at least not in a corporate sense.

I forget what ride it was but they said: "We'll take you upside down not once, not twice, not three times, but not at all." IT was pretty funny. I missed the old Ride Op spiels becuase everytime it was different.
Also, the spiels are seem cooler when the ride op is walking up and down the platform with a head set than just standing in fron and talking over a mic. *** Edited 6/20/2005 11:47:58 PM UTC by Kyle Dersch***

Rollbacks - 1 - Opening Day 2005
Last TTD train of the night (6-23/24).
I heard a different one on the CCMR last year. Once our train returned to the station, the ride op said "Welcome back riders how was that ride exit to your right, down the ramp and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point." It was funny because there was no pause what-so-ever between "how was that ride" and "please exit to your right". It was like he knew that we weren't going to say much.
And even a couple of days ago (16th) on DT, the ride op said, when we returned to the unloading station, "Welcome back riders, how was that ride?" We all gave a low "yay, whoo" and he said in a funny way "Oh I can tell that that was an amazing ride."
Then as we were leaving he asked me if I was working at the Point because of my shirt that looked exactly similar to the ones worn by the Challenge Park workers.
I said "No…...but I wish I did!!" :) *** Edited 6/20/2005 4:30:10 PM UTC by TTD 120mph***

"Just because the ride op said something extra doesn't mean that he didn't say the safety stuff also required."
It doesn't mean he DID either and that is the problem.
Does this really need an explanation in the year 2005? My kid got a candy necklace in a package the other day. Written on the package was, "please remove candy from wrapper prior eating."
When I got a cup of coffee the other day the generic cup said, "Hot Coffee" and then a warning label under that said, "warning - contents may be hot." Well, no kidding!
That is the road litigation has brought us down these days. In order to satisfy lawyers, insurance companies, etc we have been seeing this type of stuff occuring outside the amusement park business for a decade. It was only a matter of time before this nonsense came inside the gates.
Honestly, I could give a rats you-know-what about whether a spiel is automatic or not. Wait until you start hearing it in French to satisfy the number of Montreal visitors to the park.

It was CCMR, if I remember correctly...good times :P
My funniest speil ever was on Mantis. The ride op said "we'll take you 137 feet into the air and drop you 145 feet... *long pause*... wait.. that would be bad... reverse that." That's the one that sticks out in my mind the most.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
haha... nice Mantis spiel. I cant recall any good ones. and this may be off topic (sorry) but i think as long as they get the needed info in the spiel they should be able to "spice it up" a bit seeing as that they are there all day long saying the same thing. and i bet the other ops get sick of it too as well as the people in line if they are there for more than a few trains. Personal spiels over automated in my opinion.

I am saying: Why is that, Chief? Mainly I was asking this because some of the stuff they were saying on 6/18 was pretty hilarious!

My favorite thing to say was "We are going to take you up to speeds of not 60 not 70 not 80 but 42MPH". The little ones would looked surprised when I said the first three numbers, the parents would laugh. It was kinda funny.

I can't wait to work there so I can say some of the ones I've though up of (depending on which ride I get :P). Although I guess "Are you ready for 120 mph and 420 feet, cause if you are then what are you doing on this ride?" could be used for any one of them. Also, the numbers can be switched to fit MF's statistics.

I could now but I have to wait untill I'm 18 :(. Only 2 more years.
Maybe by that time I'll be able to get a spot on the crew of the new coaster. ;)

That was one of the most disgruntling things about working MF last year. I always loved saying things that I knew would make the guests enjoy their ride just a bit more... I would always include the safety stuff, but if we were ever found to be saying more than we should... BAM... spiel violation... write up... I hate "auto-spiels"
