Ride more intense from mine tunnel after full stop...

The wife and I hit the Maverick last Tuesday the 21st and the opening was delayed so we ran to Millenium first. After waiting in the line we got to the stairs and then the ride was stopped and one train removed, fortunately this only took 10 minutes and the ride was started. During that ride there was only slight braking at the mine tunnel before getting shot through. This was a first time on it.

Yesterday we rode again with all trains running and we had a complete stop at the mine tunnel before getting shot through. The ride was much more intense after the tunnel.

Anyone else notice this effect? It would seem the ride is most ideal with all trains going.

On the contrary, I don't like being stopped in the tunnel. I thought it put too much of a damper on the ride in the middle. Midcourse sections are great for capacity, evil for ride intensity.

Raptor's midcourse for example, I like! Little to no braking, and then suddenly swooshing to the right and down.

I just dont like the gap there in the ride.

I agree with Aiden Shay, i liked it more when it slowed down but didn't stop becuase all of the sudden you we being propelled 70 mph out of the tunnel. With it stopping it seems like it takes for ever to get to the LSM's (at least on my ride with it stopping it did) and it was more suseptible(sp?) to people realizing that there was a launch from the tunnel (for the first time riders of course).

One time, while I was in the front row, the train slowed to near stop. I like that the best because the acceleration of the launch can be felt a little bit better. I wouldn't like it to completely stop though.

The same thing happened to me. I liked it more when i came to a complete stop.

Some of you have a good point about the pros of not stopping...the launch was a certainly a unexpected surprise with it being our first time riding and didn't stop.

Either way it was certainly one of the best rides in the park.

While I really enjoy a ride where there's little-to-no pause in the tunnel for it's "non-stop" feeling....

I've got to say I also really enjoy the 'breather' when you do get a near-to-full stop in the tunnel. You get a little bit of suspense as to when the launch is really going to kick in.

I enjoy both, and I enjoy not knowing which I'm about to get as soon as you enter the tunnel. I think it's a 'surprise' element to the ride that will never get old.

It really depends on what train you get. If You get seated in the "First" train you should fly right through the tunnel, but if you get the "Second" train you'll generally slow down so the first train can clear the block area (not sure which one)

It all depends on when you're dispatched out of the station. The second train out has to be dispatched by the operator and it all depends on when they do so. In order to get the dueling effect, you usually dispatch that train onto the lift when the train before it goes through the second corkscrew.

Empty trains are another situation. Lighter trains slow down faster in the magnetic brakes which takes a good 5-10 seconds to roll into the stators and launch. Temperature and wind really effect the speed of the trains as well.

The trains can't launch until the previous train completely clears the brakerun and is on the turn into the waiting blocks.

I haven't been stopped completely in the tunnel yet, but the launch is pretty intense not coming to a stop...

Depends....my girlfriend and I agree it is like a mini top thrill dragster launch.

Going from 1-2mph to 70mph.

I have been on it when it does both though, and I have to say it is a little cooler if you don't stop. When you come to a dead stop you think...heyyyy whats going on??? woooooahhhhh.

The funniest thing ever is riding the front at night time and shooting out of the tunnel...I remember we just got blasted with bugs after that tunnel.

Ok for all you Maverick fans. I have to know. Is this ride really intense? My hubby wants me to ride it so bad but I am not a big coaster buff. (I know I am weird LOL). The coasters I do ride (although not really big coasters are.. Iron Dragon,Wild Cat,Blue Streak,Corkscrew. I know I cant handle much but my hubby claims I can handle the Maverick but from what I am hearing I dont know as thought I could. It sounds really intense.

Other rides I like are anything that spins and the chaos,witches wheel. If that helps.

Maverick is going to be more intense than any of the other rides you like. Not because it's really tall, but it's definitely intense. The ride never lets up from the moment you leave the station. The first time I rode it, the ride was a blur - even though I knew every detail about the ride before getting on.

Cortney: I think if you can handle the abrupt and sometimes violent action of Blue Streak, and the headbanging that Corkscrew delivers.. you'd love Maverick....

Give it a try... it's intense in the sense that it's non-stop action from start to finish... but it's all just crazy fun.. it's not frightening or too rough to handle.

Gravity...thank you my hubby says pretty much the same thing you did that it is just plain fun and you dont get butterflies in the stomach ect.. it is just a fun ride he says.

I like it better when it stops. It gives you some time to think about what you have just done and what your about to do. But I love it both ways!

I was there on Sunday Sept 23. I rode Maverick 3 times. The first time they had 4 trains running and 2 on the side. When we went through the tunnle there was NO BREAKS we hit the LSM's at 55 and then shot up to 70. I enjoyed that but The last couple times we rode it all trains were running and we came to a STOP in the tunnle and i dont mean 10mph i mean STOP. then we slowly hit the LSM's and off we went. I enjoyed that more.

I'm surprised you've had full stops throughout the season. I only had a full stop the first time I rode it on debut weekend. Since then I've been on it about a dozen times throughout the season (first and second train) and have only slowed to varying degrees.

I was there the begining of October and we had no stops in the two times i rode it. It was definately the most intense coaster i have rode and again like i have said in another post its worth any wait for a first time rider. Yeeehaaaaa

^I waited 2+ hours for my 40th ride. Maverick is the most rerideable ride I've ever been on. It hits the niche of being a crazy fun ride.
