Ride lights on at night???

I was just on funcoast.com webcam looking over at cedar point expecting not to see anything (its 1:30 in the morning), but yet all the ride lights were on like the park were open and people were riding. I don't live in Sandusky, is this a normal practice throughout the whole off season or just during the season to have the lights on throughout the night? Of course cedar point wasn't even open today, so I don't understand why there on anyways; you think they'd want to save on the electricity bill. Can anyone please enlighten me?

Well, I know that they are required to keep some lights on every ride to keep the FAA happy, but I dont think they have to keep it illuminated like they do on open days...

Go there and check out the archived photos from last night. The lights are always on, except during the off season.

Anybody can correct me if I'm wrong, but from my observation, the park turns on most, but not all, of the lights on the rides around the park about a week or so before the opening of the season. The lights then stay on throughout the operating season, even during Bonus Weekends and Halloweekends. The park closes this year on October 30th and you will not find the park lights on beginning October 31. The only exception is Blue Streak which had the coaster track lights on all winter last year. I would assume Blue Streak's lights were on because of Bay Harbor.

They probably turn them on a week or so early just to make sure all of them are working properly.

DSShives,

Your are very, very close. The park does turn on all of there lights (as if they were open) during christmas week. As a celebration

I don't recall them doing it last year. There was a thread here about it. I remember waiting for them to come on but don't remember them actually coming on. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes they keep the lights on during the operating season and then turn them off during the offseason. But I think I remember hearing somewhere that they don't leave them on all night like I think I heard that they turn them off about 4 in the morning.

I've stayed at Hotel Breakers on several occasions, and you are right, TTD420at CP. I too was curious what the park looked like in the middle of the night, so every time that I woke up I would go to the window and check out the park. Cedar Point does eventually turn out many of the ride lights, but they do stay on for several hours after the park closes. I have no idea why they wait so long after everybody has gone home to cut the power. I just know I wouldn't want their electric bill.

Yeah, if you go between 4 and 5 am on the ClevelandCam, you can see that Dragster is no longer lit up.

Edit: The exact time is somewhere between 4:01 and 4:02 AM. *** Edited 9/20/2005 5:10:22 PM UTC by SteveLX***

I stand corrected! I wonder why they wait until 4:02 to turn the lights off?

Probably because they figure most folks are asleep at that time.

I bet lots of folks are asleep at 3, or even 2.
