Restroom near Matterhorn (I think)

This question has been lingering in my mind for more than a year now, and I'm finally getting around to polling others about it.

There's a restroom not too far from the entrance to the Power Tower and I believe it's rather close to the Matterhorn, although I always get that confused with the Himalaya.

At any rate, here's the question: Was this restroom redone, rebuilt, reconfigured, whatever, over the past two years or so?

I visited this facility, which caters to both males and females, on Monday and other times over the past year or so, and it has struck me that it is not the same as it was in 2001.

Was it redone or is this just my imagination?

Please help me satisfy my curiosity? Thanks. *** Edited 7/30/2004 6:59:39 AM UTC by Boatman***

The Matterhorn restroom was renovated for the 2003 season.

Walt, you just happened to have a picture of the restroom? You are amazing.

Now, I'd like to see a picture of the trash can number 521 located on Frontier Trail.

Normally, I make it a rule not to take pictures of restroom buildings and trash cans. The inside joke at home is that I know that I've lost it when I start documenting trash cans. :) I just happened to have that picture in the "What's New for 2003" gallery because it was renovated.

Outside of that, I try to be comprehensive in the coverage we have here. As far as I'm concerned, the PointBuzz gallery can never have enough pictures. The extensive photo coverage is for historical reasons as much as anything. In 2024, I want to have a detailed record of what the park look liked in 2004. I wish I would have started this aggressive photography years ago instead of 2000.

I thought that building was entirely replaced, not renovated? It certainly is nicer, as is the one in Camp Snoopy. Now if they can just brighten up and improve the one next to Magnum, which is easily one of the busiest in the park.

Jeff, I agree. It is one of the busiest and usually one of the nastiest. Though they try hard they can't keep up with the cleanliness of that one.

Walt, I think the pictures are great. Since I don't get to the park often I can live vicariously through you. I have some pictures of the destruction of the Breakers and the renovation. It was quite a sight to see.

I'm with Jeff, I think the restroom next to Matterhorn was completely replaced. Its entrance was also rotated 90 degrees so that it actually faces the midway now.

Last year they also made a subtle improvement to the Magnum restroom by installing air conditioning. That has dried the floor up in there somewhat. It's still a pretty nasty restroom, though.

Yeah, it's kind of unpleasant when you go to the restroom there's "things" on the floor.
o man, the need to redo the magnum restroom!

With all the money they have they should spend some on makeing it nice,

The best part about that restroom is the jet-engine hand dryers, or so it seems. Those things are powerful. They actually move the skin around on your hands when you stick them under the dryer. Maybe if you stuck your face under it, you could get a Top Thrill Dragster-esque effect. :)

I know my way around CP quite well but I'm having trouble picturing the location of this restroom. Is by the Scrambler side of Matterhorn or the Power Tower side?

Walt, I have to give so much credit. Your pictures are not only amazing they are increible. Keep up the good work.

it's directly across from the Sky Ride station, set at a right angle to the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn , the rest room in question, and the Scrambler form three sides of a plaza.

Let me guess. If you feel the need to sit while doing business in the restroom near Matterhorn, the best seat isn't white -- or blue, red, or yellow -- but GREEN!!!!!!!!

Sorry, guess that's another thread. But hey, a feeble attempt at humor never hurt anyone.

I thank all posters for shedding light on this restroom issue. But one question remains:

Was it refurbished or actually rebuilt?

Walt and Jeff seem to be in disagreement over this. (Is this allowed?) And RideMan seems to agree with Jeff's take on the restroom. And these are among the most learned folks on this site.

Personally, I believe it was rebuilt, but hey, my memory is obviously shot or I wouldn't have posed the question in the first place.

thanks again, all.

P.S.: I believe this thread proves that no topic is unworthy of discussion here. Go figure. *** Edited 7/31/2004 7:29:25 AM UTC by Boatman*** *** Edited 7/31/2004 7:30:15 AM UTC by Boatman***

We're not in disagreement (but it is allowed and does happen :) ). I used the word 'renovated' because that's what popped into my head when I typed that post. I wasn't trying to comment on the construction process. :) I was trying to convey that it was different.

But ... since we all want to know, I looked into my notes from April 30, 2003. Here's the information I got from Cedar Point back then: "Matterhorn restroom was removed and completely rebuilt. Now includes unisex restroom and air conditioning."

What nobody has mentioned yet is that everything in that rest-room is hands-free except for the soap and toilet paper.

Boatman: I know, you just wanted to engage in some bathroom humor. Well, what do you expect from the potty-mouths on this forum?

And what this thread proves is that PointBuzz users are really obsessed with Cedar Point. Is there any other park...well, other than Disneyland, anyway...that gets this kind of attention on the Internet? :)

I also agree that it was completely rebuilt. I was in the park in early April 2003 when it was just a frame.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

"Is it the off-season yet?" ;)

Those jet hand-dryers are freakin awesome. And they don't have the "Push Butt, Rub hands under arm" scratched out instructions on them...

Nobody has mentioned that the restrooms next to Wildcat have been renovated this season as well.

Top Thrill Hand Dryers rule!

Richie A.

Well, I don't know about anybody else but I haven't been in the restrooms next to Wildcat yet this season.

Do they still have that "no that isn't a mirror" fake-out above the sinks?

And as long as we are on the subject of restrooms, has anybody else noticed the new signs in all the restrooms? There has to be a story behind that...!

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

Yeah! The signs about not filming with your video camera in the bathroom? I cracked up about that when I saw them...
Until I found out I knew someone who had done that... ahem!
