This weekend I entered Cedar Point for ERT at the resort gate for the first time this year. I usually enter at the main gate. Anyway, outside the turnstiles there was an employee announcing that you must have a season pass or resort pass to enter for ERT. How long have they been doing this? In past years they pretty much let anybody in early at that gate.
I have entered at that gate many times over those two years and before that and I never encountered it until Saturday. I've have even gone in with resort guests (relatives) that said that they never checked for their resort passes upon entry. Is it just a random thing if they've been doing it for 2 years?
On less crowded days they sometimes let non Platinum or Resort pass holders in. Saturdays (especialy this Saturday) are a busy day so they checked for passes.

Just about every time we go we have to wait for some guy that didn't bring his voucher/ resort pass scream at the ticket takers. That is the only reason I know about the resort passes.
My question is how long have they announced to the people that they need said passes. There may be some misunderstanding that I asked do they check for passes. That being said, the numerous times I've asked the resort pass holders in my group if they were asked for their pass they have always said no.
I've been delayed at the main gate often because they checked there.
They should always check for them if they are going to have ERT. It has annoyed me in the past when I have seen them not checking. It's not really a perk if they just let anybody in, now is it?
As for not having their resort passes, that is almost always the guests' fault. When you check into a CP hotel, they give them to you when you check in. In the past, they have emphasized what they are and why you need them.

The resort gate is the only gate I ever use because we camp there. They have asked every tome we have gone.
I have noticed on Halloweekends they ussaly dont check but recently i see workers checking at the turnstiles!

Halloweekends they often don't check at the main gate either, especially on Friday. That was discussed here in the past.
The only gate non-resort and non-platinum pass holders can enter through is the main entrance. They have an area inside the park fenced off for those people to wait in until the park officially opens at 11. This area is usually to the right of the midway carousel down to the maxair midway. The shops and Donut Time are open for them to use. They have staff present to prevent people from entering.

We went to the park on 7-1 through 7-3 and we stayed at the cabins and they ask for our resort card all three days, as this was the same last year as well.
A few weeks ago I saw them allow guests to enter by showing their room key if they forgot to bring their resort pass.
I commend the park for allowing resort guests through the turnstiles to wait in a holding area this year. In previous years it was always such a hassle trying to enter for ERT and waiting in a huge, slow-moving line that stretched through Challenge Park.
I know that this year our pass is checked! It has been a bit smoother getting in with the pass holders going through one line in the front and others to another! I mean I pay the extra to enjoy the ERT.

Which is exactly why I always assume that guy screaming at them (I used to be "them" for a couple of seasons) is some jerk bent on abusing the system. I mean, who leaves their room and forgets both the pass AND their room key?
I agree, they never were as proactive in checking resort IDs as they have been in recent years. Then again, it was not all that long ago that everyone got in an hour before the posted opening time and the resort guests only got that extra 30 minutes. I think one of the reasons they never used to check was because most people didn't get to the park 90 minutes early and they figured the people that were there at 8:30 AM would be resort guests.
Having said that, it's not like it would take a graphical wizzard to replicate resort IDs at home if one really wnats to get in early that badly; it's not hard to make a copy of something printed on cheap card stock with an early 90's dot-matrix printer.
