Remote Control Stuff

Hey people, I have a memory question. years and years ago when I visited Cedar Point with my parents I always had a memory of the Remote Control Semi Trucks and Tug Boats. But I can never recall where they used to be in the park. I can kind of remember them being on the main midway near corkscrew but I cannot recall clearly. Does anyone else remember these things?

I believe they used to have one over by the old Pirate Ride, and over by Iron Dragon, I have no idea when they got rid of them though. (Correct me if im wrong) You are talking about the ones in the water right? *** Edited 6/30/2004 3:06:09 AM UTC by randinator***

I remember the boats, and I swear they had them in the Iron Dragon lagoon at one point. I was thinking last weekend at PKI, "I wonder why CP doesn't have these anymore."

Well I am glad someone can recall them, Yes the boats in the small little pools. Also the trucks had trailers you could try to connect too and pick up. And the tug boats if I remember right had like buoys to bump on and they made fog horn sounds... So I think.

I also remember the remote control boats. Your right in saying that they were in the Iron Dragon lagoon Jeff. I am posotive that they were in there at one point. I can't really remember where they had the trucks though. For some reason I have a feeling that they were over near the Gemini... but I really don't know. Hopefully some can tell me where they were. I remember them being monster trucks.
I wish they still had them too! I used to love to drive the boats. I also am certain they used to be in the Iron Dragon lagoon.. If memory serves I seem to remember a fenced in area near the footers, and then a couple of years later they were taken out...

Does anyone remember what they used to cost? I want to say .50 cents or something... Ahh the good ole days! PKI still has some?? Have not been there in years...

I remember four locations: Iron Dragon lagoon (boats), Pirate Ride (boats), near Gemini (cars and boats) and Kiddieland (big rigs).

I remember the boats in the ID lagoon and the Big Rigs(I thought it was monster trucks) over by Kid Arthurs (Kiddieland) don't remember the others too well. I think they were there till 96/97 somewhere in there.
I used to blow a dollar or two driving them around, it never seemed to last long enough though. It would be cool if they could bring these back, I think something over in Camp Snoopy designed for the kids could go over pretty big.

I'm sure I have pictures and/or video buried somwhere, but I thought the remotes in Kiddieland were called "Remote-a-Rig" - or something like that. Could have been monster trucks, though.

I'll do some digging tonight.

There was another location for the remote controlled boats that I can remember: As you enter Ocean Motion, the wooden walkway used to be over water (now is filled in with grass) and the boats were at the exit of the ride, directly across from where striker, cocoa, misty & breeze used to be.

I can say that I remember the Ocean Motion locaiton too. Same for the ID location.

I don't recall when these things went away, though.

I believe the last two remaining locations were Iron Dragon and Kiddy Kingdom (across from Fascination). The Iron Dragon location was around until circa 1999. The Kiddy Kingdom location (which was called Remote-a-Trucks, not rigs) was around until circa 1995.

I did find this picture that I took in either 1998 or 1999. You can see the Remote-a-Boats to the right.

That's awesome Walt. I completely forgot about the sea serpent and the islands they had there to bump into.
Maybe if we start making a big enough stink about it we can get them to bring them back =D.

Try to get back the shooting galleries while you're at it.

In that one pic there's a dragon in the water too..!

I say bring back the boats, they were a fun break from the coasters:)

Now that you mention it---is the frontier shooting gallery gone, too, or just the one in the front of the park? I don't remember seeing it this season, but I wasn't looking, either.

The one in Frontiertown is gone as well.

Bummer, but c'est la vie. My son and I had a *hugely* fun time at one of Knott's galleries this past winter during our week in Orange County.
I only recall the tugboats near ID. I sort of remember that they were fire boats and you had to put a fire out in some sort of floating building, I think... I definately remember that you had to drive the boats through the structures.

The little buildings had smoke effects and I think that I remember sirens.

I had been thinking about these lately as well...

Edit:

I don't remember seeing these ever. If anyone (Walt?) has a picture of these or tell me when they existed, I would appreciate it. *** Edited 7/1/2004 8:28:07 PM UTC by Topthrill420***

I don't believe the remote controlled boats near Ocean Motion existed past the 80's.
