Remember the "Twister"?

Not Wicked Twister but the flat ride that was there in the 1960s. I was too young to ride it but there is footage of it on some of the videos. I did get to ride a Twister at my hometown fair in 1999 and it was fun. I don't know how many Twisters are left but I think Lakemont Park in Pennsylvania had one.

I remember riding the Twister at CP. It was a fun ride, sort of like a Tilt-A-Whirl.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The Twister spent it's last days at C.P. behind the Wildcat when it was in the spot where Oceana now sits. It was practically invisible, you had to walk around the Wildcat toward the beach/boardwalk to get to it. A friend of mine who was a ride op back then said the Twister was where the "problem" employees were assigned! It also lived over in Frontier Town for a season or two, late sixties I guess. In the early sixties it sat on the corner between the French Fries and the Silver Dollar.

The Twisters you find today were made by Chance Mfg. There's a traveling show that comes through Columbus that still has one. The last one I remember seeing at a park was at Indiana Beach, they had a nice model, and it was one hell-acious ride. We caught a couple of spins that had our heads pinned to the headrest for what seemed like an eternity. We were quite dizzy after that one.

CP Mac, you seem to know a lot about the Twister, could you or anyone else who knows where to find a picture of one post a link please?

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Yes. Go to www.flatrides.com and look at the index for the Chance Twister. The one posted is a really old one (from Williams Grove), but the good thing is that it's real similar to the older style that C.P. had. The newer Twisters had lots of flash, great big sign, etc. This is an excellent site for those interested in flats, both carnival and park models. It's hard to think of one that he doesn't list.
