Almost a year ago i said 'screw it' to myself one day a work a week before heading to busch gardens that i was going to ride coasters and no longer be afraid of them. I had a great weekend and then had to go to cedar point once i got home. Best choice of my life! Rode everything that first time. Anyone else remember overcoming their fears of rollercoasters? Oh and im 17, you can include the age you broke your fear if you like
When I was about 9, I got up the courage to ride Iron Dragon and Corkscrew, but didn't ride any of the other coasters. I regretted it so much, so the next time we went when I was 12, I rode everything. At that time (1992) Magnum was the big one. I remember shaking from about the pretzel turn all the way back to the station. But I was so glad I did it! I didn't get brave enough to ride Demon Drop until I was about 16, and then rode Power Tower when it opened in 1998 (that ride still scares me though, but I'll ride it :-)
"And let's also not forget--let's not forget, Dude--that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city--that isn't legal either. "
Yea, I flew in a Jet to Disney World, screwed up the scared feeling ever since, in 2002 or so. I doubt I will fly again.
But this makes me remember when my son was big enough to ride Magnum, and my wife refused to let him ride, because she won't ride Gemini. She is terrified of RollerCoasters, and was limiting my son's excitement to try to ride something new.
But one year, he was scared to ride Magnum, but I finally talked the wife into letting him ride. We rode, and we headed straight back to the entrance, he loved it so much. I believe I stopped at 4 rides in a row, my back was killing me... :) He says even though he loves rollercoasters, he still gets that tingling feeling while going up the 1st hill.
Unfortunately for me, I lost that part of the fun in riding, Its more relaxation and freedom while riding now.
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
When i was about 10 i rode corkscrew 3 times in a row and thought i liked them but then we didnt go back that year and i became afraid again. Im glad i found out what i was missing with rollercoasters
When I was a kid I was deathly afraid of roller coasters. I almost (probably) cried when my brother forced me in line for wildcat. Then I was at the park with my friends family and my friend wanted to ride Magnum. I was terrified but didn't want to wuss out. I complained that he was crazy the whole way up the hill and by the time I got to the bottom of the first drop I was never afraid to ride another coaster again. At the time Magnum was the tallest in the world and I figured I'd already rode and loved the scariest ride in the world then I have nothing to be afraid of. That started a life of thrill seeking that's taking me everywhere from cliff diving in Jamaica and solo sky dives to dangerous rapids and double black diamond skiing in Colorado.
Millie's lift hill is sooo tallll;)
almost walked away the first time.
but then i thought "is everyone who is riding
it braver than me?"
couldn't let that happen.
now it's my favorite
^ agreed. Waiting in line for griffon i wanted to wuss out but then i saw like a 9 year old girl in front of me, so i had to do it

Interesting. Even though I was scared to ride some of the Point's bigger coasters when I was 8-10 years old, and my mom refused to ride anything bigger than CCMR (still does), she let my dad take me on everything CP has to offer. My little brother, however, is a little less willing to step up to the challenge of anything beyond Gemini, so she won't let me or my dad convince him to ride.
When I was 6, I was just tall enough to ride Double Loop at Geauga Lake and was a little scared at first but thought, if other people are riding it and nothing bad is happening, then I'll be fine. Ever since then I've been in love with roller coasters.
I was never afraid, always wanted more. And i still do...
