Do people that own parks just try to make up records for ever ride because they have so many records that are pointless. Like tallest rollercoaster for example. They say TTD was thhe first to break the 400 foot barrier even though at SFMM they had one that was 400 feet. They shouldn't have seperate records for if it is closed circuit or not. The records are sort of getting out of hand.
No offence but alot of us on here dont really care. Issues over records dont last long on these forums, especially over height or speed. Besides, the winning argument (that I've noticed on multiple sites) on the whole Superman vs Dragster issues seems to be that Superman isnt considered to be a coaster since it doesnt make it all the way to the 415ft tower and that it doesnt complete a "circuit" like Dragster does.
But it's whatever you think.

I agree with you on the records issue. I don't really care about them, but one thing I will bring up is this: I've heard many CP junkies say that Superman at SFMM isn't a coaster because it doesn't complete a full circuit. Well, neither does Wicked Twister.
But that does mean that WT isn't a coaster either TTD, you know that right?? :)

For me WT is a coaster and Superman is not. How you may ask? Because it meets two of the three criteria that are evident in any coaster.
WT has a fully articulated train, not a single car.
WT has multiple elements with varying forces applied throughout the ride, Superman has one.
The third element that i use is not applied to either ride, and that is a full circuit.
Now by my reasoning a ride needs only one to be considered a coaster. Most have all three. Some like Wildcats only have two. Others like the Lazer Loop at Kennywood had another two. But for me the Superman is just a version of a reverse freefall. Nothing more.
I actually consider Wicked Twister to be a full circuit coaster. Why? Well it's how I interepret the definition of a full curciut roller coaster. If the train(s) exits the station from the front and returns through the back (or vice versa) then I consider it to have completed a full curcuit. This is something that WT does twice.
That's my 2 cents.....

I agree with Adam. I don't know many people that have questioned Vekoma boomerangs being coasters. There's really no difference between the boomerangs and WT - at least to me.

Not that it really matters now anyways... considering that Magic Mountain is down to 15 now... :)
First Ride Ever ... Magnum, it's worth mentioning that promoting record-breaking rides is one of the easiest marketing tools the park can use.

Well, if yuo're talking about how Superman is 400 feet tall, than I wouldn't consider that the record. I've never ridden it, but from what I've heard the car doesn't go that close to the top of the tower, which is 400 feet tall.
Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~
^415* foot tall hill.
Its for sale anyway. They are chopping up SFMM and selling it to the cows!! lol.

I haven't been on Superman at SFMM, but I have been on Tower of Terror at Dreamworld in Australia, which is essentially the same ride. The thing about both of them is that they reach a height of 328', even though ToT is about 40' shorter.
I could, for instance, build a 600' foot tower for one of these, and have the train only go up the same height as the other two. I could market it as a 600' coaster, but it really wouldn't be. I think that Superman and ToT are coasters, but I don't think that Superman broke the 400' mark first, even though the structure is taller than 400'. It's sort of like saying that Power Tower is 300' tall, when the cars only reach a height of 240'. But I guess it's all really just a matter of opinion. :)
Go Cubbies!
2007 hopefuls: SFGAdv, CP, PKI, HW, DP, HP, GL!
Of coarse they're coasters, it's got track, trains, people ride them, they're coasters, but yea, i don't really care about records....even though i still think Dragster took it :)

Actually, I had heard that was a mix-up with their first generation freefall. Anybody know for sure?

^I could see the mixup, as they are basically the same thing.. lol.. but I had two different sources on the sale of each ride. Both are reliable sites.
S:E has had plenty of problems from what i've heard. Many friends of mine have trekked over to see the ride not open or operating one side. Shaprio really wants to shake things up, and make SFMM a real PARK, not just a bunch of coasters.

Yeah, Freefall was the one for sale, not SM:TE. Though now theyre keeping it.......why....eh, who cares?
^^^And Dragster took the tallest full circuit rollercoaster in the world record.....which is something SM:TE never had to begin with. It's not to say that it's not a good ride, it's just that I feel more comfortable calling it the worlds tallest free fall ride.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. We intuitively know what's a coaster, and what isn't. If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, sounds like a duck, it's a roller coaster. ;)
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
Then why is TTD's height at such an odd number TTD120? 420ft? The designer must have been a heavy drug user, or that was the point... to break the height record once and for all.. over the PREVIOUS height record holder, SUPERMAN: THE ESCAPE at SFMM.
And who cares? Its a legendary ride which broke in many new technologies we see today, including the ones used on CP's newest rollercoaster. You should appreciate it for what it did and not just throw it away like trash.
God I love fanboys.. lol

And why is Kingda Ka's height at 456, and Millenniums at 310 and Magnums at 205? Maybe it's just that even number deal that CP's been doing since Magnum.....who knows! Dragster's height has nothing to do with that ridiculous "holiday" pot heads celebrate. Only other pot heads think that Dragster's height is somehow related to that.
And since when is 420 and odd number anyway?? AND since when are we "throwing away" SM:TE like it was trash?? I appreciate it.....just not as a coaster.
