Did Guinness ever make an official trip to CP and measure and speed test it, or did they just go on the trust system?

I don't think it's going to be in Guinness because of Steel Dragon. If it is holding the record when the new book is published then yeah, but it's not.

Yes, but note that it's called Guinness Book of WORLD Records, so if the Steel Dragon is completed when it comes time to measure, I doubt that MF will be included.

Thrillride specifically states the Steel Dragon 2000 will hold the record, and be in the book...sorry to all the American fans...

Does it really matter? We all know MF is better than some little Oriental coaster, regardless of it's height ;)

Guinness does frequently list both World and American records.
This year's list piques my interest though, as 4 have held records.
1. Fujiyama [Jan - Mar?]
2. Goliath [Mar? - May]
3. Millennium Force [May - Aug]
4. Steel Dragon 2000 [Aug - Dec]
The thing about Millennium Force is it will always be considered the first 310 ft roller coaster. Mine Ride was the second steel roller coaster ever built but it's claim to fame was short lived. Most people don't think of Mine Ride when they think about a first generation steel coaster. I don't even remember what the second hyper (mega) coaster was. You think of Magnum right away. Not that any of those aren't good rides, it just seems to be the way it works.

Well one thing is that MF still has records like first coaster to have an elavator system, 80 degree drop and any other things.
An 80 degree drop isn't the steepest in the world. Isn't there a vertical coaster at Alton Towers? I think so. Something like, 87.5 degrees. "Oblivion"? Somebody back me up on this.

Yeah, Oblivion is an 87.5 degree drop. But, without taking any credit away from Alton Towers, that is a smaller ride. The only thing it really does is that drop, and then it basically just goes right back to the station.
No, The Big One was not the #2. It's stats were significantly overstated to the point of ridicule.
Well, regardless of the quality of the ride, it still has the steepest drop on a coaster. (I guess I should say continuous circuit coaster).
