Reasons for early construction and enormous inclin

Millennium force was topped off in the middle of december.

They were still pouring the footers for the first hill of Millennium Force in October.

This ride has a 180 foot tower and it is only October 2nd!

I feel that this ride will be huge. Huge like we have never seen it before. Look at the radius of the bottom pullout on the first drop of Millennium Force and the pull outs and ups on Xcelerator. They are tiny when compared to what is at the Area 51 site.

This suspence is terrible. There are so many questions that have yet to be answered.

Why the early construction?

Will construction occur else where, on midways, after the park is closed for the season?

What is the height going to top out at?

Will there be inversions?

At times I really get mad at Cedarpoint for doing this, but it is fun.

I think this makes a lot of sense. It seems like everyone is expecting a single tower as you would see in a Six Flags park. I really don't expect Cedar Point to drop to that level..at least not at this point..I have strong doubts that this ride will be long in length, but I think there will be more to it then just one top hat. I also think this top hat will be over 400 ft. The idea of Cedar Point spending so much money on a roller coaster of this proportion not to go over the 400 ft. mark just does not make any sense. The footers were set at the begining of this season compare to around this part of the year as they were done on Millennium Force. There is definetly going to be a difference here. I was very surprised to see that they are planning to break the record of Millennium Force so soon, but there is really little reason to not to it at this point. I definetly see this ride crossing the midway at some point in the course...maybe ever interacting with Power Tower. Concider the space Mantis is built on. I could be wrong, but this new ride looks like it has more space available than that. When Cedar Point or any park builds a coaster, there is a great deal of concideration that has to go into where there will be space to build around it. In this case they are building a ride that is pretty much in the middle of everything. Unless there were to fill in the lagoon, this ride has to be using the space given with some kind of creativity. Otherwise the park is just wasting space for future growth.
What record does MF have???
MF broke the record for height and speed, also broke the record for most coasters at a park, and added to how many feet of track cedar point has. and a few more i think, but not sure. i havent been to cp's website for a long long time
Richard, MF hasn't held the record for a good two years now. Unless you mean for the tallest in the states...
Hey, don't bash Millie, not just the states....it's the tallest on 6, count 'em, SIX continents! ;)

BOP, yeah, you're right. It's just that that's what Cedar Point advertises MF as. They always say "in the states" or "in the U.S.", or something to that effect. I always like calling it the tallest in the western hemisphere.
I mean that Cedar Point is taking the spot for Millennium Force as the tallest coaster at the park away if they are building a 400 footer. This will be only three years as the tallest in the park compare to the 10 Magnum had..I think the same goes for Gemini.
It was 11 for both MF and Gemini. The competition in the amusement park industry has sped up the last few years. Taller and taller coasters are being built, and thus is probably the reasoning behind building this coaster.
At this rate they will be building a 500 footer in 2005.
i think the reason for early construction is because they are expecting a really harsh winter. cause last winter was not like any other. so that is my theory on early construction.

They haven't started any earlier than any other big project in recent memory. You're all imagining things.

Jeff, how do you explain this?... that when MF was being constructed only the footers were done around this time. With this project we have a tower the height of magnum already, with track on it too. You said that this project was on the same pace as other "big" projects. I would consider MF to be one of those "big" projects. With this in mind, how do you then explain why we have so much more structure built this time as opposed to MF construction? The Lift on MF wasn't "topped" off until mid december. The marks on the midways, the interior location, the immense size of the rise up the tower, the dirt on the island. There are too many indications that point to more construction. I see this ride being huge. So huge we won't know the true nature of it until the actual press release is given. If you think differently please share your thoughts.

Uhhhh...maybe that's because there were far more footers to be poured for MF than this taller, but shorter-tracked project.

Seems to fit the profile perfectly.

BTW, CP was clearing earth for PT--which was far quicker to build than MF, the '03 project or even WT--in Mid-August if I recall correctly. So the contention that 'they started early, therefore it's two miles long' really doesn't hold water.

Hell...tree removal for Power Tower started at the end of July even. Of course, footers were poured for this '03 ride back in April. But with an elementary understanding of the curing time necessary, it makes complete sense.

Seriously, who cares what it is they're doing, my point stands that they didn't start any earlier. And if you want to be technical, MF's various tower supports were assembled in sections by this time in the parking lot.

I also recall Raptor and Mantis begun very early as well. They had the plans for Raptor on the fenced off area and were pouring footers in early September. And the same for Mantis.

It seems to me that the only thing that they've done later this time is the annoucement. It's just a different strategy. It'll get plenty of attention no matter when they annouce it.
