Real ice or fake?

I was looking at the Snoopy On Ice photos on the CP site, and the caption of one said "laying out the ice". Does anyone know if the theater will have real ice, or are they using some type of plastic ice substitute?

Unless you start first thing in the morning.

It is my understanding that it is going to be real ice...notice the sig. :)

Snoopy Rocks! On Ice starts June 22--Do you think they'll let me drive the Zamboni machine?

I want to drive the Zamboni!

Fake ice? That'd be weird.

Yeah, I would ASSUME thats it would be real ice, never seen "Fake Ice" before. Anyways, it will be interesting to see how big this thing actually is. I mean you can't really tell from the pictures, but I seems to look pretty small, from what I can see.

If I can recall correctly the company who is doing the show said that they would only do it on real ice. So there ya go !

Given the photos of the refrigeration units behind the theater, I'm guessing it would be real. If there was a good ice substitute, I'm sure it'd be in wider use.

This is just a guess from accounts my next door neighbor (who is a figure skater and works at the local rink). Whenever they completely re-do the ice, they lay down blocks of it over the area, then add water to smooth it out. The refrigeration units do the rest. this could be what they are doing for snoopy rocks

oUluvDT2, I don't think there will be a 'space problem' ;) with the rink area. Comparing the construction pictures with the scale of the people & construction vehicles occupying the space, not to mention my remembrance of how wide the screen was, the rink actually looks to be more than sufficient for performances.

Fake ice does exist, it works remarkably well, and you can see something similar at Cedar Point in the Millennium Force queue. Those anti-vandalism panels along the ramp are similar to the plastic that "fake ice" is made out of. It has a smooth surface, it's really slick, and it skates a lot like the real thing. No refrigeration required.

It's apparently not what they're using for this show, though. The IMAX screen was, if I remember correctly, 77 x 102 feet. The pit at the base of the screen is...er...was big enough that Snoopy's stage is gonna make the Paramount on Ice stage used a few years back at Kings Island look positively puny by comparison.

The updated construction diary on the CP site says they are using real ice.
