Raptor's Cobra Roll

You hear a lot about Raptor's cobra roll putting it on the map. Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of the barrell roll but the cobra roll is great too. Anyway, why is this element considered distinct? Isn't this the same thing those Boomerang coasters do and I may be wrong but there were Boomerangs before Raptor.

I believe that the "cobra roll" on the Raptor was the first of its kind element on an inverted roller coaster.

And I agree that "boomerangs" are essentially cobra rolls. Not all boomerangs (roller coasters) that I've seen has an element on its ride that resembles a cobra roll, but many do.

I think Raptor was the first invert to have that element, though I may be wrong. I like the cobra roll, but when sitting in the back, the laterals are sometimes too much.

Otherwise, great element on a great ride!

Raptor was indeed the first inverted roller coaster to have a cobra roll, but then again, it was also among the first inverted coasters ever built.

And Raptor0317, what Boomerangs don't have cobra rolls?

I was thinking that Mind Eraser at SFWoA didn't have one, but after looking at a picture, I stand corrected. Although, Speed the Ride in Las Vegas in my opinion is a boomerang coaster. It travels the same course in both forward and in reverse with only one inversion.

Cobra Roll is just the name for that particular element for B&M coasters. Arrow called theirs a Batwing and so on.

Raptor0137, you're using "boomerang" as a generic term to describe what most people call a "shuttle". The actual "Boomerang" most people talk about is a specific model from a specific manufacturer (the boomerang from Vekoma)

Yeah, that's what he meant.

And Jeff da Beat, I thought a batwing was basically a reverse cobra roll. In RCT terms...half corkscrew, half loop, half loop, half corkscrew; when a cobra roll is half loop, half corkscrew, half corkscrew, half loop.

While many people say their favorite element on Raptor is the cobra roll, I'd have to say it is my least favorite. It's not very fun because you get whipped around twice and it doesn't create a good "view." I like the loop and the zero-g roll because they are smooth and they create a nice "view" when you go through them.

Egg nog... how'd they think that up?

Raptor was the first custom invert, BTR was the first ever invert. Boomerang is actually the name of a Vekoma shuttle coaster, the actual inversion is indeed a cobra roll. The cobra roll is a nice element.
Raptor's the best!
Actually...Raptor was not the first inverted coaster after BTR with a custom layout. Both of these opened beforehand:

Nemesis (Alton Towers) - March 19, 1994
