Raptor probs

HEY!! my friend told me last year that he got stuck upsidedown on raptor for about 3 minutes.. can anyone tell me if this could possibly happen? i know i'm not supposed to belive everything i hear of course...it sounds kinda unbeliveable to
me but does anyone know if this happened? plz reply! thanks...
If that ever happened it would be in the paper and on the news and it wasnt so i doubt it happend. But I think it is posible to get stuck on any part of the ride with the emergency breaks.

Emergency brakes? Really the only place to get stuck on Raptor due to the brakes is the block brake area. It is possible that due to a malfunction in the block brake at the wrong time or high winds that the train can be slowed sufficiently enough to "valley" somewhere in the ride. But generally what that means is the train will come to rest at a low spot in the ride and almost definitely not upsidedown. The only ways I can think of that it is possible to get stuck inverted is if there is some type of failure with of of the wheels getting jammed. In that case, the wheel would act as a brake and potentially stop the train wherever.

I really should be working...
Not only would it have to be a jammed wheel (broken axle, some major sort of problem that is totally unforseeable) but the train would have to come to a stop and be perfectly balanced in order to maintain that inversion -- in other words, don't count on it. Raptor has had many problems in the past, like all coasters at their off times, but stopping inverted isn't one of them!

And, if the wheels got jammed, it would take a lot longer than 3 minutes to fix the problem!
Just like MF, Raptor rolled back during its first week of operation, the train (fully loaded) didn't make it up the block break and eventually vallied out on the track after the cobra roll.

My friend said that a few years ago he saw a train stuck in the zero-g roll but I knew he was lying because it wasn't on the news or in the paper. I have a question to do with Raptor and so I don't need to post a new topic: Maybe about four years ago was the last time I saw it. Some of the wheel covers on were missing on a train or maybe more than one train but I just remember seeing some missing and does anyone know why this could be??

In '97 Raptor lost a lot of wheel covers -- they'd just pop off during operation. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I think it was something to do with the covers not being manufactured exactly the precise size, so they were more prone to pop off. It isn't particularly dangerous to operate the ride without the covers -- it's just nicer to look at. Of course, I wouldn't want to be standing under one when it came loose! But nearby would be good, because WOW! What a souvenir! :)

Wasn't there a time a CP that the Corkscrew's back car on one train jumped the track and the train was stuck partially inverted? I'm sure there is a thread on this one. With the Raptor I would think speed would be an issue. If something were to happen, your forward momentum is pretty good. You would probably be dragged out of the inversion. The Corkscrew is fairly slow in comparison. There are times I look at and think that a rollback is going to happen for sure. Someone might shed more light on it than me...

Raptor problems? On Thurs., Raptor was down in the morning. Some people were doing something to the midcourse brakes. It was OK later in the day though.

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
Thanks Crystalkat I knew I saw covers off and I thought it was weird looking seeing the wheels but that would be an awesome souvenier!

The only problem I've seen with Raptor is the floor not going all the way down in the station. Everyone had to get off. They fixed it in 10 minutes, but by that time, a lot of people had given up, so the nxt couple of rides were like walk-on. *** This post was edited by CPFan2005 on 6/15/2001. ***
Anyone know what happened today? Raptor was down a couple hours and so was DD.

Just got back from my first Cedar Point trip for 2001!!!!!
I was there, force312, but I'm not sure what happened. It looked to be a computer problem at first, but then they ran like 15 empty trains with no apparent problems before closing it down for a while. Then of course at the end of the day it was down again due to the rain.

Steuks!!
Luckly I went on it right when it opened again then. Also that we left right as it started raining.
