Having worked at Power Tower the whole summer of '99 I might be able to fill you in regarding pt's saftey systems. Each tower has its own allen-bradley control panel/touch screen display unit. Jeff is right with his observations of the electrical contacts. While the car is on the ground the two metal surfaces are in contact with all saftey harnasses. Back in the control tower the ride operator monitors the touch screen-which has a numbered section of the screen for each seat. When a particular seats restraintis open the light on its section of the screen will turn red (and disable the operators ability to launch the ride,) when the seat's restraint is locked the light in its particular section of the screen will turn green. Once the ground crew finishes loading the guests, one pt crew member will hold an enable button while the other will give a thumbs up. If the enable button is pressed and one of the restraints is not completely down, the touch screen will display a large warning screen and will disable the operators power to start the ride cycle. At that time the operator will tell the crew to check a certain restraint. It is basically foolproof.
And this is all due to the incident with the 98 crew where an employee was caught riding with out their harness!!!!
Speaking of Raptor's lift hill, I don't really understand how people would get off the ride if the train should stop on the lift hill. It seems to me it would be pretty hard since there's no floor attached to the car. I know there's a floor underneath the lift but it's angled pretty steep. Seems kinda risky to me...
At the base of the lift hill you'll notice that there is a "floor" that climbs up the lift so one row can exit to the stairs at a time.

Man. That's a really good idea. They think of all sorts of good ideas. No wonder we put our lives in these people's hands for a 2-3 minute rush. It really is interesting learning how these things work. :)
I wounder how Power Tower riders get down if stuck.

Hey that is a good question but really would happen? I know at certain parts it could not get stuck but..
I read somewhere in something that if the ride gets stuck up there it freezes and the air is slowly let out, but I can't remember where I read that at. I think it might have been on the S&S site...
Unless the pistons were to seize up in the tube, something I can't imagine happening, the ride won't get stuck.
But remind me what this has to with Raptor?

Hehe.. maybe a little off-topic, actually a lot
If one of the four pistons/cable mechanisms were to seize up, S&S says to cut the cable and the vehicle will lower on the other three cables. This has never happened up to the time the document I saw was written.
