I could be wrong but I thought I over heard someone from Discovery (or CPs PR crew) say which ever poll they used they said Magnum was 3rd?

I think you might be right Jo.  I watched the most recent top 10 last night and they DID use Amusement Today.  I'm fairly sure the year before it was NAPHA - you know, the year when the Kennywood Thunderbolt was #1 Wood.   The unfortunate thing for Jo is that Magnum wasn't the only coaster that dropped.  Raptor went to #8 I believe. :(  Anyway, it's good to be back on GTTP, but sad to be so far away from CP.  I had a great summer and I'm glad I got the chance to meet a few of you.

I looked at the my tapes and here is what I found:

1998: Magnum 1(NAPHA Poll)
1999: Magnum 1(NAPHA Poll)
2000: Magnum 1 (same show from 99)
2001: Magnum 1(Amusement Today)

Magnum was rated number 1 by NAPHA this year but dropped to 3 on Amusement Today poll.

I think they reason they are using the AT poll is because of a few things.

#1.. NAPHA has been accused of being biased in teh past Funny how they are a PA based firm and the PA coasters all seem to do REALLY well.. The AT poll is more international and spread out as far as their sample goes.

#2.. CP has put alot of money into using the AT rankings in their advertisements. Look around the park at the Golden Ticket signs.. The flags around the park.. it makes sense to stick with what you're putting your money into.

Hey.. coasters drop.. coster go up.. it's an opinion poll based on thousands of samples. No one will ever agree with it 100% because it will never be what you want 100%.
