Rank CP Merchandise

Everyone knows that I really don't like negative posts here but this is more constructive criticism. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the merchandise in the CP gift shops. Of course 10 being the best, 5 being average and less than 4 needs help. Personally I would give it a 5 and here are the reasons why.

I first want to say that I would give it 4 but I thought they did a good job with the Magnum 10yr annv. items last year. Anyway if you go into most of the gift shops its easy to see that a decent majority of the items are children's toys. The same toys that I have seen as long as I can remember. Its not a bad thing to have toys but a good majority of the toys are cheap plastic items that to me seem to take a away from a quality gift shop.

Second is the clothing, besides being insanely overpriced the selection is average compared to other parks. First with rides and coasters they do a fair job and I will admit that they have done a better job in recent years with getting better shirts for the rides and coasters. I thought they did a good job with the Millennium Force garb.

They have a decent selection of hats, I just wish I had a few more of those "one size fits most" Millennium Force hats, I only got one and I use it all of the time. Hopefully they will have more next year.

Another area that needs some help is with jackets. I was prepared to drop some change on a few jackets but halfway through the season they were out. Towards the end of the season all they had left were the Camp Snoopy jacekts, which are ok (heck, Jeff bought one) but they need some better jackets. I was holding my breath for a Millennium Force jacket similar to the Ghostrider one at Knott's. Its funny that a park that is open year-round in California sells winter leather jackets compared to a park that has very harsh winters, and sells NO winter jackets? Go figure that one out!

I wish that the park would sell patches and pins again. I think that if they made few patches they would just sell out of them and not be stuck with all the extras that they have. I heard one silver tag in merchandise told me a few years ago that they stopped selling pins becsuae they had a problem stealing them. Well the problem is easy, either put them behind the counter or in a glass case.

Not to sound so negative but there are a lot of items I love to buy. The glasses, shot glasses, and coffe mugs are GREAT! I love the park maps, and the Magnum calling cards that they sold last year were cool. The MF bean bag bears were cool too! The polo shirts and wind breakers are cool too.

I think that if the park didn't go crazy and have so much of a product made then they wouldn't have so much extra stock that we see year after year. I think they should open a store in Sandusky Mall and just discount everything they are overstocked on and get some fresh new items for the 2001 season.

Actually, they did open a store several years back at the Lake Erie Outlet place in Milan. I think it was only open during the Christmas season and was one year only. Must have not been a success.

I would rate it about a 4. Everthing is overpriced, but hey, it Cedar point I can except that. $20 for a Millennium Force T-Shirt is not bad. But yes, the selection is poor. I have never hardley ever seen jackets in any of the stores. A CP jacket would be the most usefull tool on earth to wear during the off season. I love the wall maps and I almost killed my little brother for ripping my 1989 map. I will never forgive him for that. I cant buy a hat though becuase nothing seems to fit my big head. I probalbly dont go in the stores enough because i try and spend the least amount possible at CP. Oh Well.

Park Maps are good for interior decorating.
I like all of my t's and everything I got from CP this year. The prices are my only problem. If the prices were more like Kennywood or PKI for t's I would be all set (13-16 bucks max).

I would rate it at 5. A jacket would be awsome though.

If she weighs as much as a duck, she's made of wood, and therefore a witch.
I would give it a 5 because of the price. If the price was lower I would give it a 7.

I posted something similar to this earlier in the year. I rate the merchandise a 4 as well. Why year after year do they keep trying to sell neon letters and puffy glitter glue shirts. I'm no fashion expert but who is in charge of this department. Why can't they put out simple shirts with say the Raptor logo on the back or a Magnum shirt with the logo in the original colors not in purple and pink with glitter stars all over it. Also I would agree with Dan what about having leather bomber jackets with the force logo embroidered on it I'd buy one regardless of the cost. What about pins patches etc I wish they sold window stickers with ride logos on them. My bottom line is they would see more of my paychecks if they just update their gear to more modern and in style. *** This post was edited by sky kicker on 11/29/2000. ***
I would love to see the return of patches, it seems that I started my collection the year they stopped making them. I love to have reminders of the park during the off season. Two years ago we purchased jackets at the shop next to the Demon Drop. They are the best, nylon on the outside, sweatshirt on the inside, plus a hood. They are great for early and late in the season. They were very reasonably priced. The t-shirts are of good quality I must say, they last forever.
I was talking to a freind who lurks on this site about this thread and she told me "if you want cheap party favors with the Cedar Point logo go to any of the gift shops."

I will agree on the patch thing and the jacket thing. Yes, they are overstocked with patches they can't sell. They should either liquidate them, or continue on with them, with all of the coaster logos including a new MF patch. Jackets, on the otherhand, are a thing I'm kinda out of touch with. I bought a navy-blue wind breaker with the park logo on it about two years ago. I have not been in the market for a CP winter jacket simply because I have a Cleveland Indians letterman coat which I paid dearly for. Shirts are usually something I NEVER buy simply because I hate shirts that don't have a rides official logo on it. Consistancy is a major problem with all of the gift shops. I hate it when they have a particular item with just a few of the coaster's and not all of them, like the patches. I give the gift shops a 4. (edit) Oh ya, one more thing. I wish they would contract a hobby model manufacturer to creat small workable models of all of their coaster's that you could buy in the gift shops and build at home. I think this idea would sell extreamly well in the gift shops. Wouldn't you love to put together a model of MF or Magnum or any of the other coasters in your home during the off-season? *** This post was edited by Vince on 11/30/2000. ***
Vince the model idea is the greastest. I wish someone would do that. I also agree with the ride's official logo on the gear why can't they do that. I just don't understand the theory behide that.
they still do sell patches,i saw them at several gift shops thruout the summer.
Well I liked my 3 on-ride photos I got this year, and my cool MF shirt, if those count I'd give them an 8.
Hey hothitz, how many Raptor and Magnum patches did you see? Ohh wait you didn't and neither did anyone else. The same with a Magnum 10 year patch, Power Tower patch, or a MF patch.

Why not?
i saw a PT patch last season, but i am desperately looking for aMagnum and Raptor patch to complete my laether jacket with. the MF logo i did myself, but i do not relish the idea of painting a Magnum or Raptor logo myself...can you say "double-ought brush"? sure you can...(meaning a brush with like, three hairs in it for TINY detail work)..i would KILL for a Maggy or Raptor patch...

Hey Servo, I doubt you saw a Power Tower patch, they didn't make them. Word around the camp fire is that they might have a MF patch for next season. That is just a rumor.

I really like my Blue Streak patch. I haven't figured out what to put it on yet, though.

But I agree that the gift shops are very disappointing. The selection is bad, and most of the stuff is incredibly tacky. I was set on getting a couple of shot glasses this year (this was Oct. 14), and I wanted general Cedar Point ones, not for a specific ride. That narrowed my selection down to about one, and it had bright pink lettering on it. On the other hand, they had shelves and shelves of Mantis shot glasses. I guess no one wants to think about Mantis while they're drinking.
It seems like the stores never get anything new! I don't even look forward to going to there gift shops anymore. It's all the same boring, alot of it is over priced stuff. I think it is pretty bad when you still see merchandise in there that says "The Amazement Park" on it. Not to compare CP with Disney, but I haven't seen a bad gift shop at Disney World yet, and the merchandise changes all the time!! Why can't CP do it? Jeff??
