Rain Rides!

The other day I was at the point, and my friend and I had waited about a half hour to get onto the Mantis. As we were heading up the steps, it started to get rather dark due to storm clouds coming in. I just kept praying "please don't storm until after we've ridden!!".

We entered the station and headed for the back of the train, where it seemed to be a pretty short line. It ended up that there was a single rider at the front of the line, and the people behind him had 4 people, so we went in front of them and rode with the single rider. I breathed a sigh of relief as we got our clear and headed up the lift.

We were about halfway up when out of nowhere we hear this huge crash of thunder (We never did see the lightning) and I thought for sure they would stop us. Boy was I wrong. Just as we crested the top, it started to rain. And when I say rain, i mean RAIN. It was pouring by the time we got to the bottom of the hill, and we were getting pelted by raindrops. It was raining so hard, and combined with our speed, it felt like we were getting socked in the face with golf ball sized hail.

I thought for sure we would get stopped at the MCBR, since most of the braking/transferring is done with tires and we all know (thanks to Demon Drop) that tires and rain don't like each other. We weren't stopped though, and while we were going though the brake run, I looked over and everyone was huddling under the "tent covers" that they have in the queues, and some people fled the line.

By the time we got to the end of the ride, we were all soaked. We were just drenched. The only dry spot on us was where the overhead restraints were, and where the bicycle seat was. As we turned the corner to head back into the station, we saw them send an empty train up the lift so that there would be room for us (Thank You Mantis Crew!) Everyone in the station, including the ride ops just cheered when we got back in. It was one of the most memorable rides, other than getting stuck, that I've ever had!

Oh yeah..and you should have seen our pictures...everyones face showed pain, and people were trying their best to take cover! Definetly had to buy that one!

Anyone else been on a ride when it started to pour?

That would've hurt.
That's Cedar Point weather for you. Heh. I rode MF when it was raining. It felt like it was raining REALLY hard, but when we got off, it was just average rain. :o Sounds fun though.

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is over comming it.

Wow that really must have hurt. The only coaster I have ridden in the rain was the Blue Streak and I thought THAT hurt but I should try a bigger coaster in the rain to see what it feels like.

Yeah... them crazy bastards run Millenium Force in the rain! lol, I was on it a few times when it was drizzling, but one time, when we crested the hill it started pouring, it wasnt that bad on the way down, but at the bottom of the hill when we stopped going the same direction of the rain it felt like being hit with millions of needles in the face, it hurt so bad... that was a crazy ride on millenium force...

and mantis at night, front seat, on a hot late july night.... bugs in the face!

I made a post last year about this. Last year, we went up in early June, and we had a wonderful day with only a little drizzle here and there (when the weather man predicted a big storm for sandusky), so we decided to get in line at about 10:45 to catch MF as our very last ride. We waited for about an hour, and there was not a drop of rain that dropped on us. We got up to the station and while we were waiting to get on, we felt a fine mist sweep through the station, but we thought nothing of it, it actually was rather refreshing. Anyway, we boarded the train and as we pulled out of the station, it started POURING!. It was raining so hard that the rain stung while we were going up the hill. We rode the ride and I experienced my worst ride ever on MF, but at the same time the most thrilling ride ever. We could not open our eyes because it stung too much. Needless to say, we were drenched when we got up, probably about the same as what jumping into a pool would have done. Also, we got one of the best pictures ever out of that ride on MF, it was a very cool picture. But yea, that was my experience in the rain on MF. Very...... Painful!

I'm always dancing and parting in the que lines so if ya see me just yell TEAM RAMROD!!

I've been on MF in the rain a few times, and that hurts pretty bad. I rode it once last year in a down pour, that hurt bad enough that I decided to take a little break after that ride. LoL. I've also ridden Magnum, Corkscrew, Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Wicked Twister, Mantis (Coastermania 01!(ouch!)), Gemini, Raptor, DT, Iron Dragon in the rain too. Come to think about it, if they run it in the rain, I've probably rode it in the rain.

"Population - Tire"

MF at night is one of the sweetest rides in the park... none of the track except the first hill is lighted, its awesome, and in the rain... that would absolutely SUCK! and Incline Looper, DT in the rain? wow thats a big accomplishment... i bet you got real wet on that one... lol

they operate Wicked Twister in the rain? when the wind blows more than like 10 mph it seems they close it. oh and if they ever predict a huge storm for sandusky, it will rai nat cedar point for like 45 minutes tops... yup... not much

or atleats that already happened 3 times to me this year

but then again if it does rain... it's not like i am wasting any money

While I agree that you wouldn't get "too" wet on DT in the rain, it is pretty cool to ride it when its raining. It gets really loud in there and adds a little bit of excitement and dynamics to the ride. Anything helps, right?

2000, 2001 Mean Streak

WT goes down for 10 mph wind? let alone any wind? that's a new one to me. The only weather that sets WT down is lightening, or a hurricane or something ridiculous like that :)

Being originally from Cincinnati, I haven't had the wonderful pleasure of riding any CP rides in the rain. I have, however, ridden PKI rides in the rain. Specifically, Beast, Vortex, Top Gun, Racer, and the Kings Mills Run Log Ride, now the Wild Thornberry's something-or-other. I totally agree that the faster that the ride goes, the worse the rain hurts.
