Rain checks, why not?

Thank you B&K, I wish more people like you would have the courage to speak up. I also have said that I would prefer some type of coupon (over rain checks) if one or a few of the rides have mechanical issues or are down for whatever the reason. The vast majority of people would be satisfied and appreciate with something like that. The park says "Sorry the ride is down. For the inconvenience why don't you spend money at another attraction and accept one of these coupons that we offer for free in our Getaway Guide while you wait for the ride to be running again. Despite everyone's complaining, not one person has said why this is a bad idea (except for black market coupon scam which focuses on selling coupons people could get for free anyways and would only market the park more).

While most of the "Guru" ideas seem to border on the insane,

Gotta agree, Guru. More people need to speak up like B & K. :)

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

Good quote out of context. Even I said I know some of my ideas are out there or call them insane if you want to. That's one perspective. I would just like people to consider other possibilities. Point is most people agree with me especially on the customer service issues the park has. They just aren't speaking up for fear of being called an idiot, being harassed, or banned from the forum.

I have apologized and could have said a lot more but didn't out of respect for Jeff and Walt.

No, actually most people agree with me, and I disagree with you. I just didn't want to say anything because I was afraid having an opinion all my own would get me called names or booted off the site. :-)

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Okay Im going to get real. They Should have something for someone like me in my predicament.... 4 months ago they were advertising to book hotels early for the best prices. So I booked the hotel packages for May 22nd & 23rd. Also I went ahead and booked the fast pass plus to ensure I can ride more rides since I live in Chicago. Now, the weather is saying thunderstorms for the 2 days I will be there. Now , I know you stifflers will say thats my problem but for those of us that see how messed up it is that they cant even rain check me a day so that I can atleast come back 2 different days with fast lane plus, they understand. This is the best place on earth in my book and Im a rollercoaster enthusiest. I should not lost out on hundreds of dollars....almost 1000$ for 2 for everything, just because of a freak thunderstorm system. I understand this is a business but if I dont get to ride my favorite rides within 2 days with all the money I spent, that is just wrong and definetly justifies a rain check. Especially if Im staying on there property. I should get some perk for going full on with CedarPoint.

Personally, I think rain checks would be a good idea. The hallmark of the "old" CP regime was enforcing a bunch of arcane and short sighted policies out of fear that someone, somewhere would discover a way to rip them off. If you're truly the world's greatest amusement park and an annual multiple golden ticket winner and such you shouldn't worry about the far-flung possibility that someone will find a way to work the system. (Hint-They will!) If your park is that badass, you should be able to make money while presenting a customer-friendly image. Imagine the positive PR such a move would bring.

Agreed, because If I do not enjoy my stay after dishing out all that money for a premium experience then I am not inclined to want to come back.

Why don't you try calling the hotel and telling them an emergency has come up and you have to cancel and would like to re-book for a later date?

Because they only give a partial small refund and also They wont return fast passes.

I would be happy if they let me just move back dates for both!

Adrian, so glad you finally posted. Where have you been for 5 pages? That is exactly the type of reason they should give rain checks. It would be nice if they moved your dates; but, I could see a problems with that. First, since you received a discounted rate on the hotel room the price for the room would be more if you picked a peak time. But, they should at least let you pay the difference. The second would be with room availability, the hotel may be at capacity on whatever dates you wanted to pick. I really feel bad the are giving you the shaft the way they are. The shame is, there is no reason for it.

Thanks for the understanding. It isn't necessary for anyone to run a business this way. It should say on the tickets cart, "Your total purchase could possibly be an entire waist, even though we thank you for taking a gamble with Cedarpoiint". Im just hoping and praying for a miracle in any form. The #1 ia atleast good weather or decent enough to get my money worth. I hate that it has all come to this with these American companies. I'm just gonna put my trust in CedarPoint and see what happens, if bad then I will be back to tell the world!

Adrian, I feel your pain. I prepaid for my stay this last Friday and Saturday. For the 10 days leading up to my stay the weather forecast call for thundershowers and very cold on both days with Saturday looking the worst. As it turned out, those weather guys who tell us all about "Global Warming" can't predict the weather 2 days out with any accuracy. Our two days were perfect weather. Maybe a tad bit chilly, but beautiful sunny days.

I wish you luck.

PS - The good news is that if the weather forecast is bad, there will not be that many people in the park, so if they rides can run, you will have short lines.

This was the coolesrt post I have ever seen. Gave me a little hope. Althouhg yes, but I also prepaid for fast lane plus passes :(.........kill me now!

Just saw the extended weather forecast on Toledo TV: chance of rain on Wednesday, NO rain on Thursday.

Hoping your right. All other forcast say heavy thunderstorms and continuous rain. Never took Pre paying as gambling until now. I hate the game......

Yeah, I'm not quite sure that TV weathermen and climate scientists are the same thing. Nice trolling, though.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Or the coolest post the intended recipient has ever seen. Nice trolling though.

Um yeah, exactly. I got 45wheelgun's point. Why do people pick at everything on these forums, lol. Yeah the forcast is still saying thunderstorms both days.....$4something for 2 people for packages and $320 for fast lane plus. Wow. Fingers still crossed though....this blows:-P

A pretty basic rule of thumb when making reservations far in advance is to check the cancellation policy (and that goes for FL passes as well). CP's policy clearly states that you can cancel with only a $50 fee up to 72 hours in advance. Knowing this, one should plan to make a "GO/NO GO" decision just prior to that deadline.

In other words, why didn't you read the cancellation policy and then check the weather 72.1 hours in advance? Based on the time you posted, it looks like you just weren't prepared.

Call me crazy, but when I'm spending "vacation money", I plan carefully.
