Queue TVs

I always ment to ask this during the season, but never remembered.

I think CP should put in some the lines of some of the coasters. I sortof like the idea of a TV to watch while in line. They should play like some videos about the ride and maybe even CP history (that would be cool), Kennywood does this and it is really cool. I think they call it KTV I know they kind of attepmted this with that one in Mavericks queue house but it is always on the menu screen(really fun to watch).

I was wondering what everyone thought of this idea?

I think the Maverick TV is proof as to why CP probably won't ever have something like this. If the park can't keep one TV operating, how could they keep hundreds? Six Flags has a similar system, and I believe KI does as well?

Didn't Mantis have screens in the queue when it first opened?

KI's TVs look like absolute crap. Horribly maintained, some work while some dont, and the ones that do you can barely see because the picture is either completely messed up, or the plastic screen is so god-awful dirty you can barely see light coming through.

An absolute mess.

Promoter of fog.

^Ditto that. I specifically remember the ones in line for Runaway Reptar looking like absolute sh*t. Considering those specific TVs entertain a young clientele in a typically long, slow-moving line, those are exactly the ones you most want to have working well.

KI's TVs have always been pointless. What I don't understand is why they always play music videos on them (and have for as long as I can remember) if you can't hear them? Many moons ago, they used to have it turned up loud enough you could actually hear the music and then they were ok, but they've never helped alleviate the boredom, IMO. I don't think CP needs to waste the money on them.

I prefer just music, and sometimes we don't even get that.

I will have to agree with Violakato3, KI's TVs are pointless. I was there this year twice. I had a great time. KI is my second favorite next to Cedar Point. But I remember standing in line for the Stunt Track. and seeing the TVs in the line. a couple were working and a couple not working. And as stated above they were playing Music videos with no music. That is so pointless.
Now if they played something like The History Of Kings Island (with sound) that would be really interesting and probably would make a line seem shorter (at least the first time around) because you would have something else on your mind besides "god this line is long"

There used to be ones at Mantis and Magnum.I think that's about it..

I noticed they added two or three nice LCD TVs at Raptor but I never saw them working, but I did see water dripping down their backs. That couldn't have been good.

I believe those TV's were for the the promotion of the on ride videos.

^They were. Everytime I went besides Halloweekends they were working. It was a really corny video though, and it played over and over and over again.

Maverick's worked for the first month and 1/2 and then it was always blue.

I have always thought some sort of "Cedar Point Radio" would be a cool idea. Not necessarily a live DJ sitting somewhere broadcasting on the radio, but rather a recorded track that would play out in all queues. A mixture of songs that are introduced by a DJ with trivia and facts about the park/rides in between songs. You could also have advertisements (commercials) for live shows, restaurants, upcoming events, etc. You could really do a lot with something like this. I think it would be better then TV's.

I would think this couldn't be that hard/expensive to pull off. But if it is then just throw signs in all the queues that talk about the ride you are about to get on. Sort of like what they had for Demon Drop. Pictures of construction, facts about the ride, etc, etc. That would be better then nothing.

But would you want to have the same music in the queue for, say, Magnum as you do Maverick?

The video screen in the Mantis queue has not worked for years. It was actually struck by lightning one year and now sits there covered up. It used to play music videos of the old queue music with songs like "You can Call Me Al" and "Love Shack". Now Mantis received an updated music playlist this season so that screen will likely never be used again. I was at Six Flags St. Louis recently and enjoyed there queue entertainment. They had giant LCD's in a few queues that we very nice! They even had nice weather resistant housings, unlike the ones at KI. I was told that they will be getting rid of KI's TV's all together this off season, but that only a word I have heard down the grapevine.

To me it would not matter one bit. Just give me something good to listen to. I know you can theme the music around Maverick, but if a system were put in place you could leave out that coaster. Or just have a different style for the back of the park, as if you were listening to a different radio station.

But like I said, I wouldn't care at all if the music didn't fit the coaster/ride that I am in line for. Maybe at Universal or Disney, but not at Cedar Point.

I like the idea of a sort of Cedar Point radio. I think they could do it to fit the area. Have a different recording for each midway. It could be broken up into three parts: the front of the park (including Main Midway, Blue Streak Midway, and Wicked Twister Midway), Dragster Midway, and Frontier Town and Trail. Part of the charm of Frontier Town is the music. I wouldn't want to hear Love Shack while standing in line for Maverick.

I enjoy how (when it works) the rides have soundtracks from the time they opened. I especially love the Magnum tracks because I have a soft spot for bad 80s music.

I wouldn't be so brazen admitting that. Information like that can be used in a court of law against you, you know.

Oh, who am I kidding. I get Dexy's Midnight Runners stuck in my head all the time.

Kings Island's tv's bring a shiver down my spine. I spent too many summers grinding through that horror. It started with re-runs of Dr. Katz (an animated series with Jon Lovitz as the main character's voice), but they only showed about 6 different episodes, and so you saw the same ones about 4 times each day. Then they decided to throw in some music videos. Genius! Not. One day I counted 12 plays of "No Rain" by Blind Melon. I actually kind of liked that song until that year. And now they just play garbage and don't even turn the sound up. Although during Fright Fest this year they actually played some halloween-themed stuff. That was the first thing I've seen on those tv's that I've remotely enjoyed. I've always been a fan of the live DJ in lines. Granted I didn't see a single one this past year, but at least CP plays music.

They've played Halloween-specific content on KI's QTV system for several years during FearFest/Haunt.

This was the first year they didn't have Thriller on it, though. :(
