Questions about the Twister

I am talking about the flat ride that was at the park in the 1960s. It can be seen briefly in the historical portion of the souvenir videos. Does anyone know when it was added and when it was removed. I know that on the 1972 map that the Follet House in Sandusky has shown the Twister next to the beach beside the original Wildcat. But the only actual pictures I have seen show a round concrete pad but no ride. How long was the ride over there or was it ever.
Also did anyone ever ride the Twister?
I rode the twister, it use to be at our neighborhood county fair in the mid to late 60's It was one of my favorite rides. It's alot like the tiltawirle, which is also one of my favorite rides. They had it at chrystal beach for a whyle before they closed the park down. Thats the only place I have seen it, since I didn't start going to cp before 1989. They also had a ride called the hey day at chrystal beach which was simular to the twister.
I think it would be great if we could get information on most of the flats that were installed/removed. Some are listed on www.virtualmidway.com in the history section. Look under timeline

I rode the CP Twister, at its beachside location. It was a fun ride, somewhat like the Tilt-A-Whirl that can be found in Camp Snoopy. I think I remember the ride having green and yellow cars that were triangular shaped, sort of like a slice of pie, with the narrow end attached to the pivot on the ride platform. Something deep in my memory makes me think the ride was powered by a gas engine, though I may be confusing the CP ride with another Twister I rode at a carnival.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Twister is a Chance ride, basically Chance's version of the Tilt-A-Whirl. Each of the 6 cars is attached via a pivot under the nose to the end of a sweep, the sweep has a large wheel on the bottom. The single-rail flat-steel track runs around the outer rim of the ride...the bottom half of the circle is nearly flat, while the back half of the circle is raised at a non-trivial angle.

Each tub has two seats, each seat can hold two riders easily. They look a little like roller coaster cars. Ride rotation is controlled by an operator with a control lever, and the spin rates can be pretty incredible. Williams Grove and Lakemont Park still have these, as does J&J Amusements (I think). Indiana Beach had probably the best one I've ridden; they replaced theirs with a Tilt-A-Whirl a few years ago.

"JWHoogs"---When you mentioned Crystal Beach, were you talking about the tiny amusement park in Canada (not too far from the Peace Bridge) that is extinct? I'm in the Buffalo, NY area and that's where most of my childhood memories were made.

Are we there yet?
