Question regarding Magnum.

Does anyone else end up with pain in their leg from their leg pressing against the lap bar on the little bunny hills around the tunnels?

Its called getting stappled :)

mf laps = 100! No More No Less!!
That will do it all the time :).

Most of the time though the result of the stapling is from the ride itself, not the ride ops. The positive G's going down the first hill sometime cause the lap bar to slide down another notch. When going through the valleys, always make sure you push your legs up, or keep you hand there to avoid letting the lap bar going down any further.

Also, try crossing your legs. That will make your knee's sort of rub past the lap bar instead of getting banged into it. If doing this the 3rd hill will almost force you to stand up!

When you avoid hitting the bar on Magnum, its a pretty good ride ;)

Joe E. is correct. At CoasterMania I held the lapbar up an inch or so off my lap the whole way up the lift hill. The G's at the pull-out pushed the lapbar right back down in my lap and caused a very painful ride.

Excruciatingly painful, yes. But a good ride nevertheless!

Pete mentioned a great thing to deal with this. Pull your belt tighter. Seriously, it works. Think about it, if your bar is off your lap far enough, you've got that much more room to slam up against it. The belt is flexible and distributes your weight while still allowing airtime.

Futuristic bow-wow... do the dog catcher!
Don't know about that...

Sunday morning, somebody turned Magnum up to "11". YES, the trim brakes were hitting on the pretzel. But even with those, it was turning in ride times (from crest to safeties) on the order of 0:56. I was riding in the Ejector Seat (3). Stapling isn't a problem for me; I am just thick enough that the bar comes down to the third notch (4th notch in seats 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, or 16) and stays there; the lap bar bounces up and down along with my lap, and that works for me.

Anyway, on Sunday when I got airtime on the dogleg hill...the dumb little hill that never has any airtime on it...I reached down and snugged up the seat belt. When I hit the peak of the next hill, I wished I hadn't. I loosened the belt again and grabbed that lap bar with both hands, planted both feet on the bulkhead so as to try and force myself down enough so as not to collide with the bar with so much force.

My usual tactic is to grab the lap bar with one hand and lift it up, which has the effect of holding me down more in the seat, which keeps my legs from getting too beat up. Most of the time. Sunday that didn't work so well. I don't know what was different, but rides that morning were nothing short of incredible!

Well, I must be even thicker than RideMan because the bar only comes 1 or 2 notches on me! (3 or 4 for the front of car seats) Also My legs are incredibly long which may have something to so with it. This is why I still have preference to the Arrow Lap Bars over Intamin.

Because the Arrow (Gemini and Magnum) bars are sort of flanged, when coming down at first they will hit my knees instead of my stomach or more sensitive parts of the body like on MF. For skinny people on Magnum, it just looks painful when it comes down all the way because it's hitting the back of their thighs which leaves no room.

This is where I can see tightening the seat belt would work. I still actually use the seatbelt, but I keep it very loose. Just tight enough to catch me before I slam into the lap bar. The bar is not even a factor for my rides on Magnum most of the time. I just cross my legs which makes it easier to hit the belt before the bar.

Even if an op tried to staple me with all their might, the most it would go down is 3 notches which still yields a great ride. Love hearing the people behind me when I'm in the ejector seat while going over the 3rd hill screaming "holy @$#@, that guy was out of his seat." Not because of me, its the awesome power of Magnum's 3rd hill!

I hate being big and tall, but on Magnum I think it pays off. MF is great as long as I have at least an couple inches of room.

I get as much room between me and the lapbar & belt, and I have a great ride filled with tons of airtime. To keep the bar up, I usually support it with one leg on each side. I lean forward as to avoid unwanted jarring of the back and enjoy.
RideMan:Sunday morning, somebody turned Magnum up to "11".

RideMan, are you referring to the trims? Like 11 being a speed?

Thanks

What is the 'ejector seat'?
I do the same thing Joe E does - cross your legs at the ankles. You can spread your legs to hold the lapbar up at the bottom of the hills and relax to get the air at the crest.

Without upstops, airtime would have a whole new meaning!
I rode Maggie 3 times earlier this month and racked my left knee up every time. Just now it is getting better.

I should be ready to injure it again in August.

Anyone? Any help? (and yes I am a big guy...6'1)
Somebody asked me about my "turned it up to 11" comment...

It's an allusion to a scene in This Is Spinal Tap where one of the band members points out that while most amplifiers have control knobs marked from 1-10, his goes one better 'cause he can turn it up to 11.

No, I don't know that someone actually turned a knob or something on Magnum. But it was running one better than full throttle on Sunday morning, that's for certain!

I never have any problems.

I never have problems either.
Never any problem either, however, my friend who I always get a season pass with used to complain up until last year that Magnum's lap bar always crushed his nuts. He used to put the lap bar down so far that it would be resting on his legs. I suggested that he not put the lap bar down so far, and he has not had a problem since.
"...turned it up to 11."

But why not just make 10 the highest speed and just make 10 faster?

I've seen Spinal Tap. I love it. Awesome flick.

Well, because 11 is one better, of course! :)
