Question re: pre-teen kids

Of course I rode roller coasters at Cedar Point. I live to ride roller coasters. I liked Millenium Force the most and I can't wait to ride the new coaster next year. I would not have driven 600 miles from Connecticut to Sandusky, OH if I didn't like roller coasters.

Also, operating illegally on GMRS is violation of a federal law and is punishable by a fine up to $10,000 unlike littering laws, which are typically state laws and typically have lower fines. Think about how you would feel if you paid $80 for a license and used commercial quality radio equipment and heard nothing but unlicensed "bubble-pack" radio users interfering with your legal conversations. I guess the debate will never end. In every crowd, there are people who simply don't care about the law. All I am doing is informing people of the right thing to do.

I'm not trying to take it lightly, but I don't think the big fine is an indication of the seriousness of the crime. What I'm saying is that you can't expect everyone to care nearly as much as you do and that perhaps you should relax your personal crusade. You care because it's your passion, but you are unable to understand why the rest of the free world isn't up in arms like you are.

I have FRS/GMRS radios.

I do not have a license.

You should harrass me about it.

[Edit: No, wait. They got stolen.

You should track down the people that stole them and get the FCC on them.]

The FCC doesn't make laws, they make rules. Congress makes laws, the president signs them, and sometimes the courts say they're wrong. The FCC answers to Congress, and is charged with coming up with these rules. It's not a "violation of Federal law" and it's not a criminal offense.

Maybe the difference is unimportant to you, but however subtle, it's for real. The reason is two fold. You can't trust a bunch of bureaucrats to oversee free speech, and virtually everything they regulate touches free speech in one way or another. Second, spectrum belongs to the public. While they are charged with preventing chaos in spectrum, they're going to prioritize.

I guess we tend to think here that you've got one seriously goofy cause that in the context of an amusement park site is even more goofy. That's saying something.

I can't believe this thread went from some guy asking for advice about his pre-teen children to some other guy lecturing about illegal use of GMRS radio frequencies.

Wow, that's all I can say, wow.

But at least he hasn't made the argument that the illegal use of GMRS radio by teenage kids at the point means CP is getting 532 foot ubercoaster that goes upside down 22 times.
Although, at least then he'd have provided a reasoning for why he thinks so rather than just saying thats what it'll be because he wants it to be. And that makes him better than 90% of the posts in the P2007 forum.

Well, I would be too if I paid 80 bucks for AIR. I mean c'mon, you're buying a license for air. At least when I buy deer licenses (which I have to do today) I have the chance to have something to show for it. And it doesn't cost me anywhere NEAR 80 bucks. Thats the real joke.

Haha, nice one Jugga. Yes, buying air is such a trivial pursuit... :)
