Question about Power Tower

On the Space Shot side of the ride, do they shoot you up then drop you down or just shoot you up and take you down slowly.
Shot to the top, freefall nearly to the bottom, then get shot up again about halfway up the tower, then kinda just float down.

IMO the downward launch side is much more intense, hence, the longer lines. But the upward launch is a nice thrill in it's own.

I don't think that either of the times going down on the spagce shot is a free fall because you wouldn't catch up with the seat until the bottom. I like the turbo drop as well...it seems to be the much more intimidating side.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

The turbo drop side's longer lines can also be attributed to what seems to be a slightly longer interval- although I've never timed it...

There is no freefall on Power Tower. On red (drop) the car is propelled down. I think they do the same on turbo launch. The longer line for the drop is because:1. the ride is longer. 2. people make the dumb error of concluding being droped is better.

I believe it's the other way around uniqueme. The red car is the turbo launch one and the teal or turquoise colored car is the one that drops. I have to say that I think the turbo launch is much more thrilling than the drop. The fun of the launch is waiting for the ride to launch and you just sit there anxiously and then *boom* your gone. I also love seeing everything get really small on the ground very fast due to the high rate of speed going up the tower.

Well, you know when you're gonna be shot if you know what to look for: after the cart is raised and weighed, listen for the "clear" and count to three, and you're off.

I know this has nothing to do with power tower but look at this massive drop ride! 56 people at once! I will be riding it this summer. Do you think it is slower or faster (as in drop speed) than power tower....They promise 72 MPH! It will hold the world record in hight at a 272 foot decent! http://www.kingsdominion.com/attractions_rides_featured.jsp?id=401484

The Drop Zone rides are quite fun at the Paramount parks. I'm not sure just how fast PT or any of the Drop Zones are, but they all pack quite a punch!

I found that usually there is just a little bit of an upward motion just an instance before the actual launch.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

IMHO, getting 'Shot Down' is better than 'Shot Up'. For the newbies on Power Tower, that slow ascent to the top of the Tower is super!!
I prefer being shot down too. I enjoy the high, peaceful ascent and the view at the top, then the drop.
Yeah, but for those of us who detest heights, that ascent isn't quite so "peaceful." ;) I'll take the shot side any day.

I agree, the drop side is more intense. I'm definetly not scared of heights and it still freaks me out.

I think it scares me most when riding on one of the seats faceing one of the other towers. The other tower seems to remind you how high you are. Give's you a closer frame of reference.

Not to mention every time I'm on the drop side, which hasn't been at all as of late, I'm reminded of a horrid dream I had where we were clicked in at the top and I heard a horrid metal against metal scraping sound. The seat shifted and started to seperate from the cart. Yeah. Tell me that ain't disturbing.

Just to clear something up: 'Turbo Drop' and 'Space Shot' ;)
And the reason for the line on drop being longer is due mostly to the fact that the interval is longer.
He he he, just because you heard clear, doesn't mean that you will be shot after 3 seconds. The ride host in controls decides when you will be sent, so even though they may say 'clear' they may make you wait a tad bit longer to prolong your wait :)
As for the 'free fall', technically, there is a free fall on both drop and shot. After the intial thrust, the cart sort of bungys up and down with air pressure back to earth.
Just my $.03 ;)

I like the drop side better because at night when your on it you get a fantastic view of the park and then as you look at the ride from the bottom, it only looks like your up there for a few seconds (somewhere around 13) and when you actually get up there, it seems like an eternity passes before you drop. in my opinion the only reason that the space shot side is fun is because when you get to the top and you have like those two seconds of like floating i always let go of the harness and get jammed upwards into the restraints. fun times fun times.......

dont bother

I'd disagree. Although I love heights, the Space Shot is more of a thrill too me. Probably because of that sweet second or so of airtime at the top, and the anticipation of the launch. The turbo drop, well, it's like most drop towers, but yet you can't get a space shot on a lot of them....

Aww.....Florida! But That's America's Wang

I actually tried that count to 3 thing because it worked a few times for other riders while I watched them get launched while in line. I thought I had it down good and braced myself after they said clear and counted to 3 like usual and we didn't go. I then started to think that maybe I counted to fast and while I tried to figure out what happened, we got launched. Let's just say the unexpected surprise was very overwhelming and to this day, I never try to count it again. I just get prepared for the launch and wait.
