Question about Demon Drop

Random question, does anyone know the purpose of these rectangular, off center plates in the tower? For reference, they are on the backside of the tower, opposite of where the car travels vertically, and there appears to be two on each cross member. I'm stumped.

I think this was brought up before. If memory serves me correct, those are to shield the sensors from the sunlight.
