Project 2007 "Quality"

OK.. First post here, but I hope this will make a good discussion topic..

Lets just sit and think about all the rides that CP has now, and how many of them you remember being built. Almost every single coaster there broke a record for SOMETHING when it was built. Raptor was the highest, steepest, fastest inverted coaster, Mantis was the highest, fastest stand up coaster, MF was the HIGEST and fastest (and still the BEST) coaster, Magnum was the highest, steepest and fastest, so was Gemini and Mean Streak when they first were built.

Does anyone really honestly think that CP is building a ride that will be at ALL disappointing? Is anyone actually NOT looking forward to riding the ride that we have all been trying to figure out for the past year? I know I'm excited about it.. I mean i was there this weekend, and I already wanted to go on it!

So what does everyone think? Will this be a great new coaster even if it doesnt break a height, speed or whatever record? Do you expect it to suck?

It don't need a record to be a good ride. It may break the length record for a steel coaster. I can't wait for the 95 dagree drop. woooooohhooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

I'm flat out ecstatic that finally, after 10 years, we're going upside down again.

I've never been through an Intamin inversion, and I'm flat out geeked for this thing. That's plenty enough for me.

Thats what i was thinking. Even if they say itll only be 107ft tall.. who cares!! Look at all the other grat rides that fit in that height categorie.. Raptor, Mantis, Gemini. Plus.. looks like we get a lift AND a launch.. who could ask for more?

Oh I could ask... I could ask... I mean its not the florless-flyer-invert-dive machine-500 foot-4d

Actually, Raptor, Mantis, AND Gemini are all taller than 107 feet... Back on topic though. I'm very excited to ride this ride. The speed, the quick turns, and the inversions involved have me licking my chops. Plus, won't 95 degrees be enough to get the record for steepest drop? However, I'm a extremely distressed that we aren't getting the floorless-flyer-invert-dive machine-500 foot-4d that screamscape reported. I say taer this 1 down now!!1!!one!11!

Eurofighter

It looks like the real title it can hold is "First coaster with a midcourse launch." I'm interested in how fast you're going when you hit it.

I just that's kind of funny though. It's not the fastest, longest steepest, certainly not the longest, it doesn't have the most inversions, biggest inversions, but there's so many features to it that just make it look so amazing. I guess you really don't need a bunch of records to have just a plain kickass coaster. :)

Cedar Point is really going in a whole new direction! Haha.

2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

I think it'll be very exciting. You're preaching the choir!

As I've said before, the only broken record I'm hearing is the one where everybody keeps complaining.

Sounds like most everyone in this topic is half-satisfied.

Amazing.

It will not suck.

Three things I am happy about:

1) It is not an AquaTrax
2) Sorry Mr. Scott, but I'm glad water won't be involved other than going over it.
3) Did I mention, I'm glad it isn't an AquaTrax. *** Edited 9/4/2006 2:14:23 PM UTC by CoasterJoe***

I´m solely satisfied with everything about this coaster. Amazing addition to the park, imo.

^It's everything the park has needed for so long.

I bet $100 that if this ride were to be built at Kennywood or somewhere that isn't always breaking records, enthusiasts would praise it and flock to it rather than complain that it's not big/tall/fast/long enough.

Agreed, this could have never lived up to the hype in the enthusiast industry. The enthusiasts have been following the construction of this ride for a year now and some of us even go back a couple of years when they removed the swan boats. When you have something that has been so anticipated for so long it will no doubt disappoint no matter what the ride was.

MrCoasterJoe,

How can you be sure water will not be involved with this ride? I now think it may not, but water is so close to it that it would not suprise me if it was involved (other than going over it).

Perhaps, you are right MrScott. You are correct that I don't know 100% that water won't be involved. At least the good thing is that we will all know for sure in 3 days :).

CoasterJoe, I never saw the hype in the whole thing, that's what I'm saying.

The park has needed a coaster like this for so long, and I'm extremely happy about it. I enjoy the massive amount of disappointment that has already been thrown around about this not being 500 million feet long and 6 miles high, because I feel very strongly that a lot of that disappointment is going to be gone once people start riding this and see that it's a good, balanced ride.

MF is my favorite coaster at CP, so don't get me wrong, I love heights and speed, but quality is key.

I'm with exit on this one. I can't wait to ride this thing. It looks like its going to be awesome!

If you look closely, it looks like the "river" may be heading over to the rock tunnel after the bunny hill. Maybe water will be involved in that tunnel? :)

This coaster is going to have a little bit of everything which is great. Instead of being a one-trick pony like TTD, this should be fun for everyone.

If 107 feet is really the height, I think it's perfect. Look at the heights of CP's coasters, and you have Gemini at 125 feet, and then there's a pretty good gap down to Corkscrew as the next highest. All the coasters shorter than Gemini are much milder and good family rides (Corkscrew is a bit more thrilling than the rest but it's very short). I think it's great that they're building a coaster that's smaller in stature but still a high-thrill ride. They've been following the whole "let's make the biggest and fastest (insert type of coaster here)" formula since Magnum, with the exception of Woodstock's Express, which you can't really count since it was installed with an entirely new themed area.

The last few years the park has really addressed several of the issues it's had ride-wise: A lack of large thrilling flats, a lack of a mid-sized coaster that still packs a lot of thrills, and a redevelopment of Frontiertown. I'd still ride and love a 500 foot coaster, but I think CP is a much more well-rounded park now than it was 5 years ago.
