Problem with Loading Pages

I thought this was worthy of being mentioned. About every 5 clicks or so around the forum, it brings up a page that is blank in some areas. I took a screenshot so you can see what I'm talking about. Is this happening to anyone else? It's only been doing it for the past couple weeks. I can easily fix it by clicking refresh, though.

Note: I blurred out the ad banners.

Also note: The white box on the right side is actually a text box that you can type in.

I've been getting that too.

'Welcome to Alaska!'

"Alaska?? Nobody said we were going to Alaska!!"

Yup, me too.

Edit: If you hit refresh, the page loads.

In addition to this rogue ad, one of the ads I believe is trying to download software. I received an IE security warning twice in the last two days that TrafficSyndicate.com is trying to install software. The software is "Tools for Internet Explorer".

Did anyone install this? Is it spyware or is it really some type of "tool"?

My guess, Pete: To them, it's a tool. To you, it's spyware and a @$#!ed nuisance.

Fortunately, neither Opera nor Netscape nor Safari will allow a web site to install software without explicit permission.

Pete, there are some spyware protection programs out there which will scan your computer for spyware and take care of it for you. Spybot Search and Destroy (the one I use) can also make it so that crap won't be able to install throught IE.

Anyways, w00+ to Mozilla.

Thanks for the tip, I just installed Spybot and it found a bunch of tracking cookies. Dave, IE also requires explict permission to install software, though I believe you can turn that off so it does it without asking. I didn't install the "tools", but it's still &$*#(#! annoying to have to respond to a messsage box telling it not to install!

Pete, IE *now* requires explicit permission. It wouldn't if you were using certain older versions, or if you had checked the "never ask me about this" box. That was a change as a result of one of Microsoft's endless security updates. Remember the days when lookOut would automagically execute programs linked to an iframe in an email message? That wasn't a lookOut problem, it was an IE problem, and web pages could do it too!

It's easy to forget about that stuff when you're smart enough not to allow any of that nonsense.

I think this "rogue ad" might be the one that says "smoker's sweepstakes." This problem happens to me whenever that ad appears.

A quite good spyware removal tool is Ad-Aware, go to lavasoft's website to get it for free.

You know, I can't find the TrafficSyndicate ad, which is really pissing me off. I've sent e-mail to Burst and FastClick asking which campaign it is, because I certainly didn't choose it. It could be one of their third-party advertisers pulling a switch, which has happened before (and of course they no longer do business with them).

I still can't figure out which ad screws up the formatting of the entire page.
