Simple question if gas prices are between $2.00-$2.50 a gallon this summer will it;
A. Stop you from taking a trip to the park because you live far away and it would cost a lot to fill up.
B. DO you think that the gas prices overall will have an effect on the park's attendance for this summer?
Really the only two things that can hurt park attendance is the weather and the economy. I would feel really bad if there was great weather this season but attendance was hurt becasue of the economy.

Many oil companies are boosting production, so that should help bring prices down. Strange, though, how a shortage drives up prices that day, but a surplus trickles down after several weeks.
Thank God the Guide to The Point Toyota gets nearly 40mpg on the highway!

I can honestly say that gas prices won’t affect my decision to go to Cedar Point this year. I only make it 2 to 3 times a season because of the distance (550 km each way), and I am willing to pay an extra $20 in gas. Now if I visit the park more often, I would have to take gas prices into consideration and try to save money everywhere I can.
I think it will affect the season pass holder more than the typical family. I feel a family that only makes it to the park once a year won’t mind paying more because of the novelty. And if Cedar Point continues with their typical discounts, a family will be able to compensate the increased gas prices by saving $10 each on admission.
Americans have cheaper gas anyways. One American gallon at $1.50(US) = one Canadian litre at $0.51 (Can.). Ontarians are experiencing gas prices at about $0.75 (Can.) per litre. (Difference is all from tax)
I should make some trips to Cedar Point just to save money on gas. :)
Gas problems??? NO WAY!! I own an 89thunderbird SC with a mustang 5.0 engine thats been tweeked..I get 6 miles to get gallon in that sucker.
BUT - its not gonna stop me from making my 6hour drive 10-15times ayear.

My 99 Civic EX will get 40+ mpg on the highway -- I'll hit CP as much as I can get away from work, gas prices aren't going to be a major deterrent :)
Nothing is stopping me from getting to cedar point this year. My old Mustang only gets about 12mpg but I dont care. I'm willing to spend all sorts of money to get to the point.

Please, nothing is stopping my 85 Plymouth Mini Van a.k.a "The Pine Knob Hauler" from hitting Cedar Point this year. So I have to toss a couple more bucks in for gas its no biggy...Its not as crazy as paying two bucks for a little bottle of pop.

I doubt if it would STOP me, but it sure will hurt. My truck is a diesel, and pulling an 8,000 pound trailer I get about 12 mpg. It's 425 miles one way, and diesel is currently selling for about $1.75 here. That's $62 in fuel each way. That compares with about $44 last year. OUCH !
We were planning two trips this summer, but if fuel prices go higher or stay up where they are, we'll likely change to one trip, maybe a few days longer than planned.

Oh, this first hill on MF isn't so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddddddddd.........
I agree that Gas is expensive, and my trip to CP uses several gallons of gas but compare the price to this and be happy you don't run on whiteout!
Diet Snapple 16oz for $1.29 equals $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16oz for $1.19 equals $ 9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20oz for $1.59 equals $ 10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16oz for $1.25 equals $ 10.00 per gallon
STP Brake Fluid 12oz for $3.15 equals $ 33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6oz for $8.35 equals $ 178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4oz for $3.85 equals $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7oz for $1.39 equals $254.17 per gallon
Scope 1.5oz for $0.99 equals $ 84.84 per gallon

Anyone who needs a Gallon of whiteout needs to either A) Start writing with a pencil instead of a pen B) Get a good word processing program or C) Invest in white paint.

Is that your final answer?

I live 105 miles from the main parking lot.
My car averages about 28 mpg during the summer (about 20 mpg during the winter when I am not driving to CP and PKI every weekend). At $0.999/gallon, a round-trip costs me about $7.50. At $1.509/gallon, a round trip would cost me about $11.32...a difference of about $3.83. I can make that up by eating at [fast-food hamburger joint] instead of at Applebee's at the end of the day. Or for that matter by eating at one of the many fine North Coast restaurants instead of inside the park.
High gas prices are unlikely to keep me away from the Po!nt. They may limit my travel in other regions, though, which may actually *increase* my Cedar Point visits.
Besides, OPEC is expected to increase production in April, assuming the current agreement lasts that long before someone violates it...

I'm worried about this too. Normally, I go between 7-10 times a summer since I live 45 min. away. If gas prices do go as high as they say they will this summer, I may only go 3 or 4 times just enough to pay of the expense of the season pass. As for tourists, if gas prices are that high, CP will have lower than anticipated attendance. People go on vactions based on their wallets.

Hmmm, ok, I hadn't actually thought about the math:
~200 miles to Cedar Point, door to door. Let's assume my Civic rides rough this summer and I have the use the air conditioning a lot, and only gets 30 mpg:
400 miles / 30 mpg = 13 1/3 gallons
Assume gas hits $2/gallon this summer. My round trip costs me ~$27 in gas, probably less. Given that this year admission and parking are paid for, no biggie. Food and lodging are each still more than that...
I picked the WRONG year to trade in my '93 Hyundai Scoupe which got 32mpg to CP-a 7 gallon gas tank-the MOST it ever cost me to fill up was $10.00 (using the most expensive gas) and one tank would get me to CP and back with 1/4th tank to spare (260 miles round trip)
I am now the proud owner of a Toyota Tacoma 4X4
with extended cab-6 cylinder-sharp? Yes-do I love this truck? Yes but WHAT A COW!
It gets MAYBE 18mpg (and its a stick!) and it has a 13 gallon gas tank. And my best guess will be it will cost me at least $30.00 to fill er up-(with the cheap stuff) and I am ASSUMING I can make it there and back on 1 tankful but that will remain to be seen.
Will it keep me from making my planned 15 trips this season?
NOPE-I will just use my boyfriends 1990 4 cylinder Dodge Dynasty. Gee wonder if he would mind! lol!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
Well My 90 T-bird will make it to the point no matter the price of gas. But i dead hear just today that gas may go up again in the next couple of days. Oh joy.
-------------
Welcome back Millennium Force riders...We all want to know how was your RIDE!!!!!
Ack, even with the prices being high I'll still make the 169 mile voyage (hopefully!) every other week. Usually a whole tank will nearly get me there and back, not sure on the exact gas milage on my 92 Probe.

Gas prices suck. I was [NAUGHTY WORD!]in this summer when they hit $1.30 a gallon, now I wish it was that cheap. Our polititions suck, they should have prevented this or done more to remedy it.

I have heard that there will be a gas out in the Great Lakes area. A gas out is when people don't by any gas at all for a couple of days. I have more info if anyone would like it. Just email me.

I am DREADING the thought of one or two round trips a day, 56-miles each trip, 6-7 days a week, transporting two non-driving sons to their jobs at CP. Last summer it wasn't too bad with the cost of gas then, but at the current and projected prices it's gonna a bank-breaker in 2000! I think it's gonna be cheaper to buy a season pass and hang out at CP or Soak City all day than it will be to do two round trips a day. Hell, I might even sublet a cheap apartment in Sandusky and put the car on blocks for the summer. Oh, my aching wallet!
