I have been looking for video for the original lighting theme on the ride. I remember it being so neat seeing all of the different colors.
Please post a video of the lights!!!
Here is two. Does not show the beautiful colors though. Too close to tower. And it looks like both of these videos were shot after disrepair of the theming. Hmm.. That is the first time that Cedar Point has let the theming go down the tube. :)
I could not find anything better

There was nothing particularly complex about it, it just rotated colors every so often. It was not "animated" the way that Millennium Force is.

Changing light bulbs and repairing electrical connections can be a severely complicated process sometimes, so who cares if the rides look like crap now?
I suspect that the problem is that those light fixtures (were they Vari-Lite?) don't have parts being made for them. That's the nice thing about the lights used on Millennium Force, in that the mechanism inside is exactly the same as those used in High End Systems' other fixtures (Studio Spots, Cyberlights, etc.).

Millennium Force's lighting seems dim compared to earlier years though. We could still see the lighting but it isn't the same. I didn't say that Power Tower's lighting system was complex, but it was really a cool thing to see at night when it would change colors.
You know, I harp about PT's lights a lot, but you know Jeff, I honestly didn't think about parts not being made for them anymore. Oh well. As for Millennium Force's lights, they could stand some TLC, but at least the sequences are still decent. I won't argue that they could be brighter, although I'm sure those bulbs cost some serious cash.
I too remember the original changing colors, and actually watched them a lot along with Mantis's lift chase lights from a beach in Vermillion when I was younger.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I spoke to a rep from HES at IAAPA in 2000, the fall after MF opened, and he indicated that the seals on the weatherproof housings didn't cure right, and the heat caused them to vaporize. That vapor clouded the lenses and caused them to appear dim. I wonder if that's happening again. I don't remember for sure, but I thought the heat management on those things was totally static, so the housing itself would presumably get pretty warm.
