Power Outage Today

I was at Soak City today, and it seems there was a power outage early in the day. I'm guessing it was around Frontier Trail, MF and Mantis were not running. Because of the event the park decided to close an hour later at midnight. Cedar Point, always thinking about their guests. :)

First CP Coaster: Corkscrew
MF Laps: 27
Wicked Twists: 2

Yeah, they did that last year with Magnum and Raptor keeping them open, what class. I hear the outage was only 15 minutes making a better deal.

Now that I know it's open till midnight I might go ;)

The world I love, the trains I hop, to be part of the wave, can't stop.

The power was out throughout Sandusky for a bit... The lights flickered for a few seconds at my office downtown, then everything went out completely for a number of minutes (even the phones). All of the traffic lights in town were down as well. (Thank God it wasn't during the CP traffic rush!)

Just a damn good thing I wasn't actively working on any documents on the computer a the time!

As for the Point staying open an additional hour, they are all about class and satisfying the customer. I might just have to head over there tonight to enjoy the extra hour of nighttime riding...

I'm not suprised, with as hot as it has been. Can you say "overload"?

I'm thinking it may have been due to the heat and the A/C load. Power was out here in Huron for a while and in Bellevue, where my ISP and my web sites were powerless.

Is the Davis-Besse nuclear plant still down? The shell or whatever was wearing thin so they had to fix it. Having that down isn't going to help matters.

is'nt that the truth
I was there today. I didnt realize that the power had gone out because I went out to my car to get something to eat. But when I walked back in I saw that skyride was down and Raptor was stopped in the block breaks. I went to see what was up with WT, and it was stopped dead in the LIMs. Everything was down. They only had very few flat rides going. I just waited in line for Power Tower and then it was back up within 20 minutes. I think they said it was actually out for about 45 min. but im not sure

Good old CP, always thinking of the customer. In response to someone's question, yes Davis Bessie is still down.

It's funny because I remember everyone complaining about the cold and the snow six months ago, now we're complaining about the heat :)

Just because you can't justify charging $3 for a Pepsi doesn't mean you can't charge $3 for a Pepsi.

We are never happy are we? Too hot too cold. Oh life is rough.

What? The Register wants money now?

Figures they would run a story about a power outage. You know, my servers were down for two hours last week from a power outage. Maybe they could do a story about that.

Amazing, isn't it? The Ragister wants a subscription for you to get what the likes of the New York Times and Columbus Dispatch allow access to for free.

Gonna miss the Rag, but I will not pay for news online. Too many other sources.

I've heard the Register thinks all newspapers online will cost money in three years. Three years? That's seven lifetimes on the Internet. They must be getting some bad feedback on it, because their editor went on the defensive giving the spiel on how you can't expect things for free, etc.

I don't have a problem with them charging for online content, it's just not something I would ever use online as a non-Sandusky resident.

Heck, advertising revenue stinks right now. I'll probably offer a subscription function to GTTP (a la Slashdot) so you can see the site ad-free at some point. I've got bills to pay, and relying on advertising isn't going to cut it.

And that's the key ... I don't think Sandusky residents will buy it either. Plus I wonder why they're the only newspaper around who is having this problem.

Now, ad free GTTP is money well spent :)

Getting back to the main topic, CP shows a lot of class. Compare what CP did to SFWoA just kicking everyone out and closing up when they had a power failure.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.

The difference is the outtage at SFWoA was a much longer one. CP lost power for 45 minutes and made up that time at the end of the night.

They're far from the only ones. It's a problem with print media in general. If you get the print version, why do you need the online version? If you read the online version, why spend money on the print version? Some pure online publishers (News.com) seem to be doing pretty well, but those who do both are starting to have to justify the online unit.
