Potential Disaster Transport refurbishment

I like DT as a ride and experience but I also agree that it takes up a lot of space that could be better used for nearly anything else. I dont know but if the ride is still in good condition, Id argue to just move it to another park that doesnt have such valauble sights/real estate and maybe rennovate it there giving the ROI more bang.

It'd be nice to have a view from the ride while also having an indoor coaster. I vote for something matterhornish. I can dream cant I? :-)

I am a parent of a 6 year old, and am really glad that disaster transport is around. It's one of the few coasters my daughter can ride. And she really likes it as well.

Just for the sake of fun, im trying to draw up an idea of what a re-themed/refurbished DT would look like outside. Im still working on it, but I have the general idea figured out. Im trying redraw the outside to look like Coney Island style building. I figured that would be a neat style with all the lights in the area(Windseeker, Giant Wheel, the games, Luminosity?) Theres a link to the kind of style I'm thinking of. Not exactly what im drawing but it's down this road.

Imagine your favorite tv show. You've been through it all. The ups, the downs, the crazy coincidences and then bang! They tell you what it's all about. Would you be happy? Does it make sense? How come it all ended in a church? - Joker

I think Mike has mentioned it before, but theming the building to look like Snoopy's dog house would be a good idea. Then have a air fight like Snoopy always daydreams about.

My thought is to move the coaster to Michigan's Adventure, where it would fit in really nice. CP could build a pier out to the lake with a small family coaster on the mainland. It would show off the lake and at a nice coaster for everybody.

I was looking at Google Earth and I'm not sure how far down Cedar Point owns but it looks like there's some good land toward the parking lot that would be nice to be developed.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

I agree that it is a hideous attraction for what could be one of the most attractive locations on the peninsula. MF going up the hill near the bay, Magnum darting along the lakefront and then a warehouse (an ugly warehouse at that) blocking that beautiful beach.

If I were Ouimet I'd tear the thing down and replace it with a wooden coaster. The turn-a-round for the coaster would be just short of the property line of DK's McMansion. On the turnaround I would put a trim break that I would never grease so it would be as loud as hell.

I think the 46" height requirement has saved DT for more than a decade now.

While I personally don't care for the ride, my nieces and nephews all LOVE this ride and force me to go on it anytime I take any of them to Cedar Point.

^Same here. My nephew (12 years old) marathoned it with his friend at CoasterMania last year. He rode it about 20 times without any re-rides. I just sat by the Fried Cheese on a Stick while they ran round and round. (is it possible to get a re-ride without getting off the coaster?)

I would guess not - isn't there a curtain that separates the unload/load areas?

Yeah, not that CF unclenches corporate policy to allow re-rides all that often, but it would seem to me that of all the coasters, DT would be the least likely one to snag a re-ride for that very reason.

And really, it could be lowered to 42" if they really wanted. That's the req. on DTs twin at Great Escape so I'm guessing that's Intamin's set requirement and CF just raised it as they do on most rides.

Great Escape is in a different state. From what I have been told, height restrictions differ with each state's guides.

Ohio has say in the matter regarding hight requirements too. IIRC they made the park raise the height requirement for Shoot the Rapids at the last minute. Or maybe was it Maverick.

The more I think about it, with the rumored spectacular light show possibly incorporating Giant Wheel, a DT-area renovation sounds very logical.

Another thought...I've seen many wish lists for a wooden coaster on the beach, but wouldn't the blowing sand issue come into play again? It seems like the grease-coated track would become a sandbox and squeal away. Considering the sand issue, tubular steel would make the most sense, and CP has no shortage of those?

If I am not mistaken, the state can not make the park go above the manufacturers set height requirement. It's up to the park if they want to make it higher.

I could be wrong, but I thought that I had heard that before.

I would like to see a rock and roll theme for this ride. Maybe Van Halen, KISS, maybe 80's New Wave or Pop or something like that. Have music playing in the background in the que and theme it as a concert experience.

My kids love this ride, I would hate for it to go away. Mean Streak on the other hand.. Tear it down or retrack it in metal.

Your talking about rock n rollercoaster

He's talking about making it "similar" to Rock'N'Rollercoaster, but not exactly like it. I could see it being pretty good as a concert themed ride. Something just needs to be done with it to make it a bit better....and not just another cheap fix either.
