Poor employee oversight in Camper Village

We just returned home from a CV stay from 8/26 to 9/1. I have stayed at CV many times through the years and have never encountered so many rule violations from guests. I don't know if people in general are just getting dumber by the year, or if the CP employees just don't bother enforcing the rules. Here is some examples:

1) When we arrived on Sunday we had to throw out a group of about 10 people from our campsite that was having a picnic on our picnic table, car and all. Everyday at least 3 groups of people thought they would take a campsite and have lunch. Signs are posted all over stating picnic tables are for campers only. Most of these people apeared to be from Soak City.

2) I saw at least 2 tents, one being a massive screened in type. It was put up Friday afternoon, and still there when we left on Saturday. Tents of anykind are not allowed on CP property.

3) People not leaving there campsites at check out time. The camper next to us had to be tossed out because a new camper was assigned that site. The guy who was tossed out said "he didn't know there was a check out time".

I have never witnessed this kind of chaos in CV over the years. Has anybody else noticed anything similar?

CP should have charged him for an extra day and then kicked him out. That's the way it works at any campground I've ever stayed at, if you're not out by checkout, you'll be charged but may not be able to keep the site.

Some people really dont care in my opinion. People think they can get away with anything these days.

Having worked at Camper Village for most of the summer these are all things that happen quite often, there is just nothing we can do about it. There is no way to stop people using open campsites to have a picnic because it would take an employee walking around to every campsite to ensure they are supposed to be there, which really isnt possible. The tents are also a grey area with Camper Village. We did allow tent structures as long as no one was sleeping in them, so if they put a table in there and planned to eat their meals in there then it was ok with Cedar Point for them to do that, but again there is no way to ensure no one is sleeping in them. The check out thing was just that guest not paying attention as check out times are written on every paper you recieve when you check in. So these things are not uncommon, there is just no way to stop it...

These don't sound like anything big. Like k5 said, they are all problems that there isn't to much to do about. Probably things that are on the bottom of Camper Villages list.

If return campers are wanted, these CV issues should be at the top of the operators list.

These are all issues that it is hard to control... apparently not that many people cared about these small things, as camper village was sold out for majority of the summer... so getting people to return isnt really a problem for camper village. In fact, there were several people this summer who made their reservations for two years from now...

The marina has issues, too. It probably all boils down to management being lazy, uninterested, anti-social or too afraid to deal with problems or involve other departments. At least that's what I've noticed over the last 3 seasons.

It is my understanding that CV didn't have a manager (along with Sandcastle) at the beginning of the season and...if one was found at all...he/she was certainly thrown into the fire.

That doesn't excuse what might have been some operational problems, but it does explain it.

Getting campers off the sites at check out time is an ongoing issue because it is pretty hard to move a camper if all of the guests of that vehicle are in the park. "Squatters" pose a similar problem as they just can't monitor every site every minute of the day.

The tent issue was explained properly. So long as no one is sleeping in the tent, and it is opaque (you can see through it because it is mesh screening and not a solid wall) they will generally let you keep that type of thing up if it is covering a picnic table or something like that.

You can't see through something that's opaque. I believe you meant transparent. :)

without getting into detail, the resort operators are fortunate that reservations and bookings are what they are today. That is no doubt that due to the convienience of staying at a CP resort gives convienient & privelidged access to the park (plus other perks!). If the rules and basic expectations of CP overnight guests are not met, the good fortune of return bookings will be in jeopardy.

How many folks have stayed in the Bon Aire Wing at the Breakers and said "can't wait to stay in this room again"? and booked it year(s) in advance? There are Sandcastle Suites that may provoke the same response.

Write CV, and express your concerns about visitors on your sites, and people over-staying.

Maybe next year there will be checks performed on the lots during check-out time, larger signs notifying customers, and more verbal acknowledgment made with the parties.
