Hey everyone.
I had a great day at the park yesterday, but my experience at Wicked Twister was not. I can not count the number of times i have been on this ride, and never once have I had this experience. My favorite seat on wicked twister is the front, so when i saw the front line queue only had two people in line I was amped. The ride operator at the turnstile was giving seat assignments. When he asked us how many we said "two but can we go to the front" all he said back was "row four". I replied "we would like to wait for the front please" again he gave us a dirty look and said "row four". I uttered "First seat" with a point to the line, with a glare I was served with a divafied one more "row four". My friend said lets just go so we walked through. I looked at my friend and said "the front is now row four". So we went to the front.
We did not even get to ride it at the time. When the couple in front of us got on the ride, the ride operator we dealt with got up looked at our area then crossed over to the the control booth. We then heard his voice on the loudspeaker to inform us the ride was down. My friend joked that he did it because of us. Though I'm very sure thats not what happened, from the looks this guy gave us I bet he would if he could.
We did get a ride later in the day when it was back up and running. When the new operator asked how many in our party, we asked for the front. He said "of course". I looked at the line seeing there was four times as many people as the first attempt. "are you sure?" I asked, he gave me a look like I was crazy and said "absolutely".
So what is the policy on asking for the front on Wicked Twister?

I didn't think there was a policy like that in place on Wicked Twister. As a matter of fact, I don't ever recall them assigning seats. Any time my sister, our friends, and I have ever been on it they've asked how many people there are riding and let us through, we then pick the seats that have the shortest waits so we can go together. If this is something new for this year, this is the first I'm hearing of it.
Go to Guest Services and file a complaint and fill it out in detail. Try to pay attention to the names of the Ride Ops when you do so.
At the very least you will get a response to your complaint explaining the policy.
At best, they'll use the information to do additional training with the staff member who caused the commotion.
At worst, they'll tell you the policy is that the Ride Op assigns seats.
Early in the season you an often run into folks that take it upon themselves to "police" the ride...I've run into similar types of things on Giant Wheel, Raptor, and even Wildcat over the years...they've all be resolved after a written complaint.
This came from the Cedar Point website:

Wicked TwisterGuests should go through the regular queue line and get into the Front Seat queue on the loading platform. Once the queue is full, guests must choose another seat.
From my experience, Wicked Twister operators will not let the station overfill. Therefore, sometimes they assign seats or direct guests to an unfilled queue. I have always seen them grant requests though. Sorry you had a bad experience.
Thats the thing the front queue only had two people in it. He was loading the rest of the platform so only one train worth was in the station at a time, and only 1/3 a train was lined up. There was space everywhere.

There is nothing worse than a trip to CP with rude ride ops. I would understand if it was a full circuit roller coaster and they would want to fill an entire train so it did not valley but considering the fact wicked twister does not have to worry about that I am not sure why the op was rude. Maybe he was taking his job too seriously or maybe he thought you were part of th GP and did not care where you sat as long as you got too ride. I do agree that you should fill out a complaint and if you don't remember the ride ops name at least say around what time you were in line at so they could see whose shift it was.
I doubt the ride was shut down just for you...knowing friends of mine who has worked twister...it a super touchy ride...it could have been because of you but I really doubt it...if so wow thats pretty low haha...reason being is if the ride is shut down it is called into park op so supervisors are aware the ride is down and park op is aware as well, so they know the status of the park and what's going on...you can't just call in down empty stupid guest kept asking for front seat so we shut down...that's not ganna fly lmao...sorry you had a bad experience...I doubt it was all directed towards you for the shutdown, I am sorry the op was forceful in putting you into a row..that's part of the sending whole trains mentality to push more riders through and be efficient thing...its still early for the ride ops in the season...give them time and it should all be worked out

Just finished four days at Cedar Point. I noticed a lot of the employees were definitely following all the "rules". We were directed to row four on Gatekeeper, but I asked can we go to front row, and worker said ok. I think they are just doing what they have been told by the bosses, especially early in season, just to get the the hang of it and used to the flow. I am sure atmosphere will change once workers grow more familiar with each post and responsibilities.
Each worker on GK was different when it came to seats. One was very strict about the assigned seats, and it was hard for us to convince her to let us sit where we wanted. We wanted to go to the back, and there was hardly a wait for it so that didn't really make sense. She kept insisting we sit somewhere else, but after a little sweet talk she allowed us to go to the back, thankfully. Another time we didn't even get assigned a seat. Then a few other times they gave us a seat, we asked to go somewhere else, and they immediately said no problem. I can see why they assign seats on some rides, but I don't like it, especially when there's hardly anybody waiting for the row you want to go to. And keep in mind these assigned seat variations were all within a few hour time period on the same day.

It sounded like a first year employee by the way their attitude was portraying towards you and your group. I never had a problem with letting people go to the front or back line. The only time it was an inconvenience (and I don't know if this was the case with you and your group or not) is if there were only 1 or 2 empty rows waiting to be filled for the next cycle, and there were guests in one large group waiting on the ramp outside of the station/turnstile so they could all ride together, I can't let the group into the station due to the overcrowding policy ride ops have to follow at WT. So, in order for me to fill these 1 or 2 empty rows, I call for a group of 2 or 4 people that are waiting behind the leading group at the turnstile. Once they finally squeeze their way through the large group(s) in front of them to get to the turnstile, I assign them where to go sit (which is the only time I assigned seats), and now they all of a sudden want to sit in a specific row. Then I tell them that they either have to go to the row I assigned them, or go back to their spot in line because it would be considered cutting if I just let them sit wherever they pleased.
However, at the same time, it sounded like it was someone who is in leadership or an in-charge if they went to controls to call the ride down. That's a very weird experience you had my friend. Next time, after the second time of telling the ride host where you want to sit, just go to where you want to sit instead of arguing with them. It's unprofessional on their part no doubt, but it'll be more likely to ruin your day if you do that.
Yesterday on Gatekeeper, the first time through the line (when the wait was a longer 75 minutes) we asked to wait for the front no problem. The second time through (wait time now only 45 minutes) we asked to wait for the front and the ride op said no. So we just went to our assigned row. Literally the VERY NEXT person behind me asked to wait for the front and he said go ahead! I was pretty ticked!! So we moved from our assigned row to the very back row, since we hadn't ridden there yet!
On a side note, i actually liked the very back seat on GateKeeper better than the front seat, the view was basically the same, but I loved the feeling of being whipped through the elements from the back way more.
