Pointfest & Joyfest

I'm probably going to avoid the park these weekends like it was The Plague. But just in case, does anyone know where these concerts will be held? I thought I read somewhere that it would be the Soak City parking lot. Does that mean they will close the parking lot that weekend?

Edit: Found the website. It is going to be in the parking lot. I wonder how this will be set up and if I can park at Breakers or something.

Michigan Adventure just plopped a stage in there parking lot for the same rock the coast. I would think putting the stage in the Soak City parking lot would be the best choice, but i am not an engineer.

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

IF you think about it, Cedar Point is one of the only parks not too have a concert hall. Doees anyone think the Oceana Theature could work for concerts?

I applaud them for trying something like this (although I personally wouldn't be interested in attending).

But, I do have to say, "Come on. Saturdays in HalloWeekends?" Pick from what are arguably your busiest days of the season, and shut down that entire parking lot? Granted, most CP visitors park in the main lot, but I'd be curious to see just how crowded it gets.

Looking forward to BooBuzz...wish it weren't one of those weekends (and not Jeff's fault, I know)!

I am interested in what crowd levels are going to be like. I imagine Pointfest (the first weekend) will bring in more people than Joyfest, just because of the names involved. I'm more curious as to how they will block off the area to allow only people with concert admission in, and whether Challenge Park will remain open during the concerts.

Not likely. You don't use a venue that can hold only a couple hundred for an event that you are trying to draw several thousand to.

According to the website.

Your combination of festival and themepark ticket includes admission to Cedar Point and all the performances!

Well.. theres the two Saturdays of Halloweekends I'll miss.

If the performances are outside the park, and start at a reasonable time (like 7pm), those could be great weekends to go and have some relatively dead fright zones as the people there for the concert all flock out of the gates.

That makes BooBuzz far less appetizing, I'm afraid. We'll probably still go, but damn. What a waste of a day that'll be.

The performances start at 2pm and the last one for Pointfest takes the stage at 7:50. So it will probably be pretty dead inside the park around 6:30 or so.

I take it you've never been to HW. ;)

I would offer the same advice I give to everyone else - if the only day you can go is a Saturday during Halloweekends don't go. People usually think I am nuts but they understand my advice when they go on a Saturday.

Well if I remember right, I read somewhere in a different post that they only allow a certain amount of people in the park. 54,000 is standing out in my mind. If people are more willing to watch the concert rather than being in the park, do you think they would allow more than 54,000 people?

All I know is that I can't imagine the park can hold much more than what was there on the BooBuzz Saturday in '07. That was nuts.

Or go with the understanding that it will be packed, there will be lines and you won't be able to do it all.

I don't think they would, but it probably couldn't happen. Looking through old threads, it sounds like the busiest October Saturdays have 'maybe' been over 40K. Also, I doubt the parking lot would hold that many cars, especially if they are using part of it for the concert.

All I know is I am excited....and not for the concerts, I could care less.

Hahaha, you would be excited for that Zeek. Are you gonna be waiting to welcome them at the Magnum gate after the show? :)

This website has the schedule for the concert, which shows the last act taking the stage at 7:50, but also warns the performances may run past park hours. I doubt Toby Mac has 4 hours of material though.

Perhaps somewhere there is a capacity number, but I'd bet it's less than the capacity of the parking lot. I worked the front gate on that really crazy day in 07, and while there was lots of talk about running out of places to park cars, there was no talk about being near a maximum capacity for the park.

Expect Family Force 5's set to run over, possibly quite a bit. As for TobyMac, he'll go for as long as he and his band have the energy to. I was at a concert where he was the headliner, took the stage at about 9 (maybe a little bit before) and the set didn't end until about 11:30, and the place was through the roof with energy the entire time.

As for crowds, I would expect pretty insane levels until a little bit before FF5 goes up, but after then I would guess the crowd levels will drop quite visibly until Toby is done. I'm also curious how they'll handle parking since they won't have the Soak City lot to work with.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

If they run shows after the park closes we should go out and join in on the fun.
