I can understand letting guests through the gate early so that people don't have to wait in such a long line at 10 am., but I'm kind of surprised that they let the general public on rides during that time. Depending on the day early entry can be a bit of a let down if most of the advertised rides are being tested or are not running at all. This just devalues it as a benefit even more.
I think this is always going to be a touchy subject. During the days of the Joe Cool Club, morning ERT was strictly enforced and while I benefited from paying for the JCC upgrade, I remember the pissed off guests that didn't have a clue as to why we were able to hop in the line in front of everyone.
I think having two front of the park rides available to everyone entering mitigates those pissed off people. Besides, look at the additional Platinum Pass benefits that have since come along since the introduction to ERT. They've added more value to you like food and store discounts, and ride nights.
I get what you are saying about the perk of ERT, but this is something that they have to enforce, Every. Day. The JCC ERT was only on specific Sundays if I recall correctly. This is one of those things where I don't get too worked up over the value of that perk being eroded.

I'm going to the park this weekend, and was wondering: is ERT even worth it? I remember going a few years ago for MF, but the line was longer than it was during the normal operation. Has that changed at all?
